————————————————————————— Episode 2.3: The Lost Emancipation: Jurassic Face Huggers. ————————————————————————— The silence continues. Adam charges up his wormhole keytab, supposedly configuring it to get them back home. Toby makes a quick trip to make sure the coast is clear for the beaming. Marcus exhales. “I’m sor-“ “I’m sorry”, Adam interrupts. “Truth is, it can be so uncomfortable, your planet. To have so many people unknowingly categorise you as just another special effect, it gets to me. Maybe I was being too cautious, but I didn’t want Jane to start seeing me that way.” Jane smiles at his apology; Mariam sheds a tear, not knowing how to tell him that he took the words out of her mouth. “Hey! You guys want to take one last look at our little discovery!” Toby calls from a distant hallway. His gleeful tone perks the ears of the wallowing survivors as they stand up and traverse the maze of corridors, only to find their bunker becoming a balcony. They join an awe-stricken Toby as they bear witness to what once was an enclosed barn now stands before them: a lush capsule containing a bygone era of Earth's history. “Holy…” Mariam exclaims, overlaying John Williams’ score in her imagination. Mighty sauropods roamed the miraculously green bed below them, their heads peeping out of the cloudy expanse of towering vegetation. Herds of Galimimus pepper the scenery as a content pair of Triceratops drink from a shining lake as artificial as the light above them. “Life uh erm um finds a way”, Tom impressively Goldblums to his director’s delight. “I can see why young humans preoccupy themselves so deeply with these creatures,” Adam comments, truly breathtaking. “Humans of all ages preoccupy themselves with dinosaurs; we just grow to hide it from our coworkers.” Denise teases before miming a shush to Adam. For a moment, everyone, including Marcus, whose hands are inseparable from Jane’s, had forgotten about all the secrets and conspiracies. They just loved the view. “You know, I really wouldn’t mind a secoFU-” Jane’s heartfelt proposal is put to a gross end by the clinging and clawing of cybernetic tentacles leaping onto her potential partner’s face. The Sadler Six quickly leave space between them and the smothering. Toby looks over to Adam, hoping that the display was nothing more than a prank taken too far. His suspicions are unfortunately proven incorrect as Adam assumes a defensive position, his figure slowly growing more threatening with venomous spikes ejecting from his skin. “Save him!” A terrified Jane commands the now man-urchin hybrid. “I can’t; these situations are delicate. Once attached, harming the parasite could endanger the host.” “Parasite!” Marcus’ mouth expels the objection, the entire top half of his face covered by what most would describe as cyborg calamari. “Are…are you a Tarniphlo?” Denise asks, causing Adam to mime a ‘cut it out’ gesture. “Do not confuse me with my oppressor!” The puppet utters. “If it makes you feel better, they abolished the practice 12 million years ago, and gave reparations only 10 million years after that!” A nervous Adam reassures what the team now realises is an imprisoned slave controlling their newest member. The symbiotic case study simply stares at its guests before inquiring. “What lifeform do you people belong to?” “We’re humans! We’re like, kinda the natives here, not that I’m saying anything or…Adam’s a Xentiviac!” Denise’s answer causes Adam’s stomach to plummet. “This planet has evolved indigenous intelligent life! I have been trapped too long.” Marcus’ body exclaims using what vocabulary it could extract from its host's brain. “As for your companion, I have no knowledge of his kind.” Adam sighs hard enough to knock over a small village. “Yes, I believe my kin were still uncontacted when you were unfortunately trapped here.” He explains. “That aside, this is an absolute tragedy. I’ll inform the alliance of this whole situation, and once you are compensated, you’ll give us your hos
