[20] Chapter - 9: A Beast (Part - 1/2) Anshvi's fingers closed around her spear, her knuckles turning white with tension in the pale moonlight. She didn't hesitate in her movement, nor did she calculate like any normal warrior would when faced against a beast that could rip her apart with a swipe of a paw. She charged at the beast without a moment's hesitation, her body slicing through the air like a silver arrow, her spear thrusting towards the lion's throat. She was unaware that she had underestimated the beast. The Two-Snake-Tailed Lion was a fast beast for her size and strength. Its massive paw swung through the air, its claws shining like curved swords in the moonlight. The paw came down on Anshvi squarely in the middle as she charged at the beast. It was like an explosion. Anshvi was thrown back like a broken arrow, her body striking a tree with a loud cracking sound as it was split in two with her body's force. Leaves came raining down on the clearing as Anshvi hung suspended in the air for a moment. Then she struggled upright. Blood trickled from the corner of her lip as she wiped it away with the back of her hand. Her breathing steadied, a fire burning in her eyes. It was not a fire of fear; it was a fire of determination. Eklavya didn't think. His hands flew into motion, a series of signs being made with rapid speed. In his sea of consciousness, a stirring took place. It was a stirring in his token, deep inside his mind. He drew on it. He borrowed soul power, and it came into him in a rush. And then, a burst of ki shot out of him like a shockwave that rippled out into the air. Leaves trembled on trees. Grass was flattened on impact with the ground. His eyes flared with a brilliant, unnatural blue colour. It was like a creature awakening from a deep, deep slumber. Power coursed through his channels. Anshvi looked over at him once, just once, but just long enough to understand. They moved together. Anshvi came from the front. Eklavya came from behind. The lion roared as they saw both. The roar was like a crack of thunder. It boomed through the clearing in a burst of pure energy that seemed like it could be felt in every cell of every living being in the vicinity. Both Anshvi and Eklavya took a few steps back from the force of it. Anshvi was the first one back into the fray. Her spear shot forward in a deadly strike. It was screaming through the air in a blur of motion that was almost too fast to follow. The point of her spear bit deep into the shoulder of the lion. Dark blood sprayed throughout the clearing. The lion spun around from the pain of her spear. Its crimson eyes burned with fury. One of the lion's serpent tails lashed out. Anshvi barely had a chance to react. So, she raised her spear shaft in time to deflect the blow. The impact of the blow was tremendous, causing the rod of her spear shaft to crack loudly as it splintered under the force of the blow. Anshvi was sent flying across the clearing, her body rolling over the dirt before coming to a stop in a cloud of dirt and fallen leaves. Eklavya saw his chance. He ran forward, his feet pounding through the clearing in a blur of motion that was almost faster than his body should have been able to manage. He ran up the beast's hind leg, climbing up its leg in a shadowy movement that seemed almost supernatural. His blade flashed. The green sword sliced downward across one of the serpent's tails. Steel sliced deep into scaled flesh. The sword cut halfway through before the serpent jerked violently. The tail writhed like a dying snake, spewing venomous blood across the ground as it thrashed in agony. The clearing erupted in chaos again. The lion roared in agony, its massive body twisting with terrifying speed. The ground shook beneath its weight as it spun toward Eklavya, crimson eyes blazing with murderous fury. Its enormous jaws snapped shut with a thunderous crack, missing his head by mere inches as he rolled across the dirt. A claw flashed. The curved talons ra
