The wind carried a large wetness. It smelled of petrichor and burnt chemicals. Down in the square, the massive transport truck was getting dangerously close. They didn't have much time. They found themselves at a rooftop office. Glass from the windows littered the floor. The frames were twisted and blackened by fire. Spiker put a finger over his mouth, signalling Mica to keep quiet. He pointed towards a sound in the adjacent room. Mica gave him a nod and took out her two throwing knives, crouching low as she made her way towards the noise. “How do you want to do it?” asked Spiker. “... Fast.” Mica whispered. She counted down from three on her fingers. On one, she kicked the door open. Inside were two Dark Intrinium soldiers, their backs turned to the door as they reloaded their weapons. Their forms were silhouetted against the shattered window. Mica strafed to the right, catching the barrel of the soldier's weapon before driving her knife through his knee. The soldier's scream stopped abruptly as Mica gave a quick elbow to the face. The other soldier, a massive, broad-shouldered man with a face carved into a permanent sneer, swinging the butt of his rifle in a wide arc. “Woah.” Spiker ducked under the clumsy swing and drove the heel of his palm upward into the man's nose, the cracking noise vibrating through his palm. “AG-” He then grabbed the soldier by his leg, spinning him around the room. He let go, watching the soldier's head blow a hole through the flimsy plaster wall. Both took a moment to take in the room. It was a mess. Desks were flipped over, papers were scattered, and the floor was stained with blood. The laptop turned off with what appeared to be a dead man's switch. The bloodied soldier was clutching a leg, wailing in pain. They stepped over a prone body and onto the rooftop. The immediate change in altitude was jarring. The wind was stronger here, whistling past their ears and tugging at their clothes. The sheer number of bodies laid out in the square. Mica saw a group of Dark Intrinium soldiers near the convoy, securing the perimeter, their weapons trained on the surrounding buildings. “... So we jump onto the convoy and what then? You'll go beast-mode and I'll toss a few knives and hope for the best?” Mica's sarcasm cut through the wind. She crouched behind a crumbling parapet. Her grip tightened on the hilt of her throwing knife, the leather cool against her palm. “... Yes. Woof.” replied Spiker, a quiet gruffness in his tone. “At the very least, we can secure the lives of those in the shelter... Whatever that convoy's carrying, they intend on making the war even worse.” Spiker and Mica watched the soldiers open the back of the lead vehicle. A massive ramp slammed down onto the concrete with a deafening clang. A group of soldiers in heavy armour, armed with Anti Soul-Wielder weaponry, marched out of the vehicle. The convoy rumbled, the tires spinning roughly against the concrete as they turned a corner. The massive front fender of the transport truck was level with them now. “It's now or never.” “Woof!” Spiker nodded once, a sharp decisive gesture. He took a deep breath, and Mica saw the muscles in his back and arms begin to swell and twitch under his uniform. His posture shifted, lowering, coiling with potential energy, but then he returned back to his hybrid form. “... Spiker?” “Behind you, Mica!” Mica turned around and barely dodged a sharp knife slash. She saw the glint of the blade and ducked under it, the tip of the knife slicing through a few strands of her hair. .:. That was close... .:. She used the momentum of her dodge to drive her own knife upward. Just as she thought that the soldier was done for, she lost balance, her face hitting the concrete. “Special Division spotted, eliminating them n-” “RAH!” The formally clad soldier's comm transmission stopped abruptly as Spiker jumped onto the soldier, enlarging his arms, raising his arms up to hammer the guy's head. The soldier kicked the back of Spike
