Lucia turned toward the city wall and noticed the clangs of Mykael and Lucifer’s battle had ceased. Mercy suddenly yelled, “Great job, everyone! Gather others and take care of this mess. We need the bodies gone and the city wall repaired!” “Yes, my Lady,” the soldiers replied, punching their chests in unison. Ishkiel appeared next to Lucia. “Are you all right?” he asked, his head tilted. She turned to him. “Yes, I’m fine. Don’t worry, Ishkiel.” He nodded. Lucia noticed that Mercy stood beside them. She gazed at the two. “Shall we see how Mykael is doing? It sounds like his battle is over too,” she said with a warm smile. Lucia’s gaze shifted toward the fallen city wall as she replied, “I had noticed that too. Let’s check on him.” With a nod, Mercy marched forward as the two followed. They made their way through the city, several broken buildings along with the corpses of humans and monsters alike rested on the streets. Stepping through the gaping hole in the city wall where the gate once stood, they saw Mykael in the field, alone. He gazed at the white clouds above as his pristine silver armor shone in the light of the sun. The grass had sustained several burns along with pale sparks of flame spread across the field, leftover from the battle. “Mykael!” Mercy yelled as she ran toward him, throwing her arm left to right in a wave. He turned to face them, several streams of a golden liquid run down his face and armor. ‘His… blood?’ “Oh my… are you all right?” Mercy asked, a worried expression written across her face. He nodded, replying in a raspy voice, “Fret not, I will be fine.” Mercy turned to Lucia and Ishkiel after a brief pause. Glancing between them, she asked, “So, now that the fight is over… you two were from Luminara, yes?” “Yes.” They said simultaneously. Lucia’s eyed widened, suddenly reminded of something. ‘The neighborhood that got attacked—the cathedral.’ Digging in her skirt’s pocket, she took out the blue stone Lamprecht had given her. She hastily turned to Ishkiel as she blurted out, “We need to go back to Heavenrest and tell them about the cathedral in Luminara! We have finished the trial, I’m sure they would help.” He lingered for a moment, gazing at her sparkling eyes with his head tilted. “You’re right…“ Shifting his gaze to Mercy and Mykael, he continued, “What about them?” Lucia glanced at them, opening her mouth to speak. Mercy, however, interrupted her, “Mykael and I could come with.” Tilting her head, Lucia asked with a hand on her chin, “Would that be possible? We only have two memory stones.” Mykael raised his arm, his finger pointing toward the ocean, his face listless. “Luminara lies beyond this ocean. I shall fly Mercy there.” Ishkiel nodded. “Sounds good, let’s meet near the cathedral of Luminara, then. You can’t miss it.” Suddenly, Lucia blurted out, “You’re going to fly Mercy there—like carry her across the ocean?! That sounds awesome!” “Yes,” Mykael said, turning to her as he dropped his arm. Ishkiel tapped her on the shoulder. Turning, she saw Ishkiel with his memory stone in hand, his arm raised. He was ready to use it. “Are you ready?” “Yes, I am,” she said, gripping her memory stone as she, too, raised her arm. Throwing a glance at Mercy and Mykael, she saw him carrying her—arms around his neck as two pale wings swayed behind him. The silver-haired woman waved at the two of them. “Bye-bye, Lucia, Ishkiel. See you soon!” They waved back at her, swaying their arms left to right. A smile appeared on Mykael’s face. Then, in a blink, they flashed across the waters like lightning. ‘Woah!’ She turned to Ishkiel with a gaping mouth. “Did you see how fast they disappeared?!” He nodded, a slight chuckle escaping him. Throwing a glance at the ground beneath her, she asked, “So, how does this work? Do I simply throw the stone beneath me?” “I suppose… let’s try,” he said after some lingering. She firmly nodded. Gazing down upon the grass on which they stood, she took a deep breath and threw her arm dow
