In a distant land exempt from the natural world, “It’s dark in here. So very dark.” A woman uttered in a whimpering voice. She trembled as she hugged her knees and sat in a crouched position. A clear look of horror was visible on her face. It was a barren world of dirt and eternal eclipse; a place where the sun and the moon were one. The slight yellow light was devoured in the face of a darkness that refused to recede. “Why? Just why?” she said as tears trickled down her reddened eyes. Her face was laden with pain and fear. Her teeth clattered as she whimpered endlessly. Her fingernails dug into her knees as red blood seeped down her legs. She wasn’t supposed to be here. She was to prepare lunch for her husband who would be going to work soon and buy a gift for her daughter who had a birthday coming up in a few days. She had saved up quite the amount of money from her day job and was thinking buying a new dress for her sweetie. She also had some chores which had piled. She had yet to do the laundry and wash the dishes from last night which she had postponed due to her laziness and her desire to spend some more time with her family. Yet, she was unable to do any of this. All because she happened to catch the Eye of someone. A cackling sound reverberated through the wasteland. Hundreds of wriggling creatures covered in veils of darkness surrounded her. There were spiders the size of houses, centipedes the size of mountains and moths the size of castles. All of these gargantuan insects were a deep shade of black with glistening crimson eyes. They had but one purpose. To observe her. She sat in the middle of them, crying and unable to flee. Together, yet alone. The buzzing of giant wings, the tapping of hundreds of legs, all rang out in an cacophonic orchestra that only fuelled the horror. She had no hope, she had no light. Amidst the sea of whispers and whimpers, a sudden quake shook the world. The circle of the humongous monsters split apart in two, giving way to a path that led straight to the huddled her. A man cloaked in a wriggling pitch black glided down the hallway of monsters. His cloak dragged across the ground and writhed as if it had a life of it own. A series of tapping sounds echoed as the spider legs on the edges of his long cloak crawled forward alongside him. He wore a pale face that squirmed like there were worms hidden inside his flesh. His black eyes were narrow as they stared at her with an adoration different from what any human could show to another. A eerie smile spread across his face the moment his eyes laid upon her. The huddled woman shivered as she stood up and ran backwards at full speed. She stumbled and panted as she ran. Pure fear coursed through her veins as all she could think of was getting away from the incarnation of horror that smiled at her. Her body froze. All the muscles in her limbs lost their connection to her will. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t move. Even her voice had been stolen. She turned around and sat down on her knees. Her face lifted up as the figure of the cloaked man appeared in front of her. “Why do you run? Are you perhaps feeling this thing you people call ‘fear’?” he said in a bewitching voice as he let out two pale hands with wriggling flesh and grabbed the face of the tear stained woman. “You’re really pretty,” he said as his smile widened. His fingers squished and played with her face as he leaned in close to her. He pinched her cheeks and rubbed her forehead. He pulled her ears and caressed her eyelids. His eyes were glued to hers as they stared deep into her very soul, as if trying to unravel her humanity. The tears that wouldn’t stop leaking wetted his fingers. He removed his fingers from her face and licked them one by one. He laughed and said with a blissful expression, “Humans are so interesting, I just can’t get enough of them. Perhaps this is what you people call ‘obsession’? Yes, I’m obsessed. I have to thank you all for it. He cackled and added, “
