The majestic garden shimmered with an enchanting bliss. The birds waltzed and the flowers twirled underneath the warmth of the sun. The wilting flower hunched deeper as she trembled, awaiting evermore... “Yuli, there is something very important we have to discuss,” Evander looked at her with a grave look. Yuliana nodded as she anticipated his question. She took in a deep breath and steadied herself as she sat straighter on their living room’s sofa. Evander also took a breath. He waited for a second, and then asked, “Vanilla, chocolate or strawberry?” “Ugghhh I don’t know!!!” Yuliana grabbed her hair as she swayed on the sofa, looking very frustrated. “Do I really have to choose only one?” she asked with pleading eyes. “Yes, for your first time, you should try the flavours for themselves. After you’ve tried em all, can we do some mixing and matching. But before that, only one!” Yuliana grumbled in disappointed. She scrunched her face and after some very hard thinking, she said, “Alright fine! I’ll go with vanilla!” “Ho? Interesting choice. May I ask why?” “It is the most basic one and if I am going to try ice cream for the first time and can only pick one flavour, I’d rather it be the one most suited with the image of an ice-cream.” Pouting, she added with a mutter, “But preferably, I’d like to do all...” Evander chuckled and said, “Then vanilla it is!” He clapped his hands and went into the kitchen with a dash. After a few minutes he came out with a tray on which were two intricate glass cups. The two scoops of white ice-cream on each cup glimmered as Evander set down the tray. Her face lit up as she picked up the spoon beside her cup and dug into it. “Ah you should probably be care-” “Agh!” she said as she felt a shockwave rattle her brain and her face contorted. “Yup, that’s what I thought,” he chuckled. He added, “It’s a common thing which happens when you get too hasty with ice-cream. We call that a ‘brain freeze’. To get that on your very first bite, impressive.” “That’s not funny... It really took me by surprise,” Yuliana said as she regained her composure. “But it is delicious,” she said with a smile as she took a small bite, carefully this time. “Mmm!! It really is!” she giggled as her face lit up in a bright smile. “I’m glad you liked it,” Evander said with a smile as he enjoyed his own cup of ice-cream. They chatted as they ate. It wasn’t anything serious, just some small talk. Evander spoke about the various fun things he did like with his ventures into gardening and cooking while Yuliana spoke about the books she had been reading at the library. Sometimes, she’d laugh or sigh at Evander’s joke while he’d smirk and chuckle at hers’. To her, being able to have fun by casually talking like this was much more sweeter than the ice-cream they ate. Soon their cups fell empty, and so did their joyful conversation. Evander picked up the tray as their ice-creams finished. “Your training has been going well. You are at the point where you can contend with a high Stage 1 while only being low Stage 1 yourself. But still, you are not strong enough. If a Stage 2 came after you, you’d be able to withstand for a while but it won’t be enough to escape, even with the Supreme Oracle. “Normally, it wouldn’t have been an issue as even if I’m gone I could’ve just come back to you by the Shadow Doll but the place I’ll be heading to is very anomalous and dangerous. I can’t say that I can just come to your side if you get into danger. Hell, I can’t even confirm whether I’ll be able to sense it.” “Umm, will you be alright?” she asked, her voice brimming with heavy concern. Her eyes narrowed and her face drooped with worry. Evan smiled, but then he sighed. “I really wanna say it’s not a big deal but looking at how things are turning out around that place, I can’t say for sure. But I can guarantee you that if anything threatens me, I’m strong enough to at least escape with my life, even if it’s a Stage 4.” Yuliana felt reassured at his words,
