“Hehe, they’ll be so surprised to see you,” Blaine said as she walked up the porch of her two storeyed house and knocked on the door. “Hey there! I’m back,” she exclaimed as she knocked louder. Soft but hurried steps could be heard from the other side of the door as the handle was brought down and the door quickly opened. Yuliana looked down and saw a small child with black hair and big blue eyes. He stood with his arm above his head as he held onto the door handle. The moment his eyes landed on Blaine, his smile widened. Running to her, he exclaimed, “Mama!!” “Yes Derry, it’s mama! And I’m back!” Blaine replied as she squatted down and embraced her son in a big hug. “Have you been a good boy?” she whispered to him and patted him on the head, rubbing her cheek against his’. “Yes! Today, I washed the dishes!” Derry replied as he hugged her mom and began jumping in her embrace. “Really? You’ve grown up so much! I’m so proud of you,” she said as she patted him on the head once more. “Hehehe,” Derry giggled innocently with his hands wrapped around his mom. After a moment of shared warmth, Blaine stood up. Holding his tiny hand, she turned around and made Derry face Yuliana. Yuliana bent down slightly and gave Derry a warm smile. Waving at him, she said, “Hello there, I am Yuliana, a friend of your mother’s. Can you tell me your name?” Derry’s face furrowed slightly as he shrank back at the sight of an unfamiliar person. Blaine gripped her son’s hand tighter as he looked up to her with his big round eyes. “It’s alright. You can speak to her. She’s a friend. Go tell her your name,” she shook his hand towards Yuliana’s direction. Derry took a step forward and looked up at Yuliana with his innocent face. He smiled and said, “Ello miss! My name is Derren Alephsion. Nice to meet you.” Yuliana’s eyes narrowed in adoration as she put her hand atop his head and gently rubbed it. “Nice to meet you too,” she said in a sweet voice. He smiled and grabbed her hand. “Come in!” he exclaimed as he dragged her into their house. “Haha, I’ll be intruding then,” she said as she trailed behind him. Blaine laughed and said, “looks like he took a liking to you. He’s normally a bit apprehensive of strangers, but would you look at that, the way kids grow up, almost makes me wanna cry,” she feigned a sniffle and followed them inside. A warm feeling enveloped Yuliana the moment she stepped foot into their house. The soft crackles of a burning fireplace spread out from the living room in the right, hushing the looming winter. “Your granny is probably there, go show her our newest friend,” Blaine said as she encouraged Derry on. “Okay!” he said in a cheery voice as he dragged Yuliana into the living room. “Gramma! Look!” he exclaimed and pulled Yuliana towards an old woman sitting on a rocking chair in front of the hearth. “Oh? Who is this now?” The old woman put down the newspaper and nudged her reading glasses upward. Her eyes narrowed as the wrinkles on her face deepened. “She is Ms. Yuliana! Mama’s friend,” Derry declared as he introduced her. Yuliana gave the old woman a light bow as she said, “It is as little Derry says. My name is Yuliana and I’m a friend of Blaine’s. Sorry for intruding.” Her eyes widened. She looked at the smiling Derry who held Yuliana’s hand with glee plastered all over his childish face. “Blaine’s friend are you? Haha!” The old woman said with some surprise before bursting into a laugh. She added, “Sorry, it’s just that Derry’s mom tends to be away from him during the day with this new friend of hers, so I expected him to be not so fond of you, but it seems the opposite happened instead.” Yuliana scratched her head with a chuckle. “Well, what can I say? Kids are unpredictable. Who they like and who they don’t is completely up to their whims. I guess I happened to get lucky with him.” She looked down at Derry and patted him on the head. “I’m sorry Derry for keeping your mom away from you. I hope you can forgive me, kay?” Derry shook
