1.56 Sovereign, meet death Chapter 56 No eyes even went my way for more than a moment as I stalked the war camp. My target was ahead of me, walking tall and proudly after such a large win on the battlefield. And while that mentality might have been well-earned in all other circumstances, it would prove fatal. The Viyark was high on pride, but he failed to realize that the grasp of death was always closing around someone. It was only a matter of how quickly that grasp was furling around you. For the Viyark, at that moment, it was a closing fist which was rushing in to crush him, he simply had no idea of this fact. He entered the command tent alone, sighing deeply as he placed his helmet on the large table containing the battle map that he and Barry had pored over earlier that day. I slipped in after him, a ghost on the wind. My footsteps were just a subtle crunch on the dirt, unnoticeable and indistinguishable from the movement of the many soldiers marching about outside. [Vizark Terraliun, Lvl 10, Marked for Death] My Thanatarch’s Edge, now in the form of a scythe with a long curved blade, swung out with the full speed my stats allowed. The edge of my weapon’s blade was centimeters from my target’s neck when I felt the force behind my blow drastically drop. It was like I was swinging my scythe suddenly underwater, very thick water. Before it even managed to touch his flesh, the Vizark’s ability stole my attack’s momentum entirely, stopping it in its tracks. His eyes widened as he realized what was happening and he jumped away in a burst of power that sent the table flying away and throwing debris in all directions. His own sword was in his hand as he landed on his feet, and he raised it between himself and me as my second attack came. Once again, my blade was slowed when I reached him, and he knocked the weapon aside in a parry. His weapon shot out right after, catching my shoulder and piercing through the armor I was wearing, drawing blood. “You?!” He shouted loudly when he realized it was me attacking him. He seemed surprised and angered at the same time. I didn’t blame him. I was betraying them, no two ways about it. “But why?” “Power, Terraliun, it always comes down to power.” My answer was flat, my voice devoid of emotion as my mental switch was flipped on. “You will die here,” he said. “I doubt it.” My blood spun up into projectiles and was launched his way. Their velocity was also stolen away, just like my earlier attacks, and he battered them away with his sword. He rushed me then, bringing his weapon down in an overhead chop. I conjured a barrier to block the strike, and he wasn’t strong enough to break through it in one blow. My aura blasted from my body in a cone right after, flooding the general with my presence and giving me a moment to lash out with a counter. The thick soup of momentum stopped my strike, and he recovered quickly. I dodged his follow-up, sending two new blood bullets at him from behind. They, too, were slowed and barely broke his armor, but still contained enough force to knock him forward and off balance. My scythe danced in a quick barrage of blows that he blocked and parried quickly. His stats were too low to have managed that alone. He was still alive due to the ability he had, the one I was keen on acquiring for myself. Each attack I sent his way was slowed and he returned my attempts with lightning fast counters. I activated [Lightning Synapse], my mind and body speeding up to push him further. Even with the stolen skill, I knew I was basically fighting against my own speed and strength. If I wanted to defeat the general, I needed a new strategy. My mana cycled even faster under the boosted mental concentration [Lightning Synapses} afforded me. Barriers formed around myself and Terraliun took that as a weakness. He pushed in, attacking harder. My barriers caught the first attack, but I moved them after that, allowing the second to enter my guard. His blade pierced my gut and the tip exited
