1.49 Titan's Fall Chapter 49 The silvery orb that was Gerard’s soul essence entered my body, and I felt my ability process it immediately. I knew there were some rather great potential options for that particular essence, but my attention was dragged elsewhere, forcing me to swipe the status screen away from my vision. Nieve was already barreling toward me at full speed, his body beginning to glow subtly in an orangish mana. A skill activation, I was sure. My eyes flickered to Barry some meters away, the paladin looked stunned after having watched me kill Gerard, as his jaw was slightly slack with his eyes wide, staring at the man’s head that rested on the ground. His [Holy Strike] had been abandoned, its golden light floating away in wisps. Poor Barry, always thinking he can help everyone, save everyone. The thought passed my mind with a somber note of pity. But that bare distraction was costly for me. “Die!” Nieve shouted as he finally entered melee range to me and swung his fist forward at me. The collected orange mana of his skill shot down his arm and out of his closed hand in a burst. I hastily formed a latticed barrier from my own mana, placing in between the two of us just as the Titan’s attack was released. The clash of energies only lasted a second, as my barrier was broken apart under the onslaught. It cracked, then fragmented before it was blasted inward, the orange burst continuing on into my body. It felt like I was standing in front of the Dungeon Portal with the Hynaenid Lord once more, as I was tossed backward with surprising force. Fuck! My body tumbled across the ground, bouncing once before I was finally able to regain my senses and contort myself to land on my feet and absorb the rest of the momentum. I still ended up nearly fifty feet away with a large furrow of ground torn up in my wake, leading back to a small cracked crater where I was standing just a moment before. Nieve grinned at me as he assessed his own attack. My clothes were fine, but the dust and dirt that covered me mixed with my blood as gashes had opened on my head and arms where my skin was exposed. “Tougher than I thought,” I heard the General say. “We should take him alive,” Barry shouted as he jogged forward to meet back up with the Titan. “Alive?” Nieve said the word like it was insulting. “Yes, so he can be properly tried and sentenced for his crimes. Justice isn’t done by the hand of Hunters alone,” Barry reinforced his position. [Blood Manipulation] activated as I pulled the blood off of my skin and collected it into two sharpened projectiles above my right shoulder. In the same action I pulled a mana potion from my new belt and downed its contents. The need to conjure and shape so many barriers was getting costly on my mana pool, even with how large it was. “You two are getting ahead of yourselves. You have to defeat me before you start spouting things about justice.” It felt almost corny, talking like a villain. But it was the persona I needed to keep up for my plan. Noah Lenkov, Azazel, was a character, and he had to maintain a certain level of unredeemable evil. Luckily I had decades of stories and fiction to draw on for inspiration in my performance. “There is a difference between Hunters of different Tiers. You two know this, having Legendary classes as well. But I’ll tell you, even Legendary Classes are not made equal. I am the pinnacle, I am Death.” I raised my staff once more, drawing out more blood from my wounds to run down to its tip before shaping it into a scythe-like protrusion. “Come, taste the inevitable end,” I said coldly. “See, he needs to be stopped. Now,” Nieve said. “No—” Barry tried to stop the Titan, but he had already rushed forward again. The orange glow of his skill showing once more. Unlike before, I was ready for the Titan’s skill this time. As he attacked, releasing his mana burst, I shaped my barrier differently, angling out to my left side and changing the internal lattice structure to be far stronger
