1.43 Wakey Wakey Chapter 43 [Quest Updated! Final Wave Completed. Quest Complete. Allocating rewards based on individual contribution and feats… Rewards: 5 Gold, 25 Silver, 250 Copper Credits. Fine Ring of Naturestriding - Rare - (+10 Dex); Increases wearers maneuverability in natural terrains (Moderate) ] The quest rewards weren’t exactly amazing, but it was also just a Common grade dungeon and getting a rare item drop was still great all things considered. The dexterity bonus wouldn't help me at all, as my cloak was still way above the ten percent max on its own. The secondary effect was good, though, and I happily changed out my inventory and slipped on the new ring. Whatever special magic the item contained was something I didn’t understand, and yet I knew instantly that the sands weren’t going to be as much of an issue for me as they had been before. My boots already had much better traction as I walked back to the walls from the muddied battlefield. “Great Hero, we have done it! Thank you for all your help,” Kliktik called to me from the top of defenses. I merely waved and smiled at him in return. I knew that over the last two monster waves, a few more of the guards had died. The inhabitants were dealing with the strange mixture of emotions that was the high from surviving a battle, and the grief at the cost of such a victory. Some of their people needed to be buried, and I wouldn’t be interrupting their solemn event. It was the least I could do for them, given that I was going to be betraying them all in just a couple short hours. I still had a Karlac to kill, after all. The portal leading back to Earth had already appeared in the sands outside, and I knew walking through would mean completing the dungeon entirely. But there were still things I had left to finish there. The Karlac, for one. But also, I still wanted to get my hands on one of the arcane cannons. Stealing their prized weapons they relied on for defense, and killing the creature they relied on as a source of water were actions I very much doubted they would just let slide. So I needed to make sure I was ready for a fight. That meant resting to regain my mana and heal my wounds. But also, making sure I was as strong as possible before that time came. [Ability Activated: Soul Usher (E) Harvesting Soul Essence… … Essence to next ability rank: 4218/10,000 Essence Available: 4422] [You Have Reached Level 16] [Name: Adam Pierce Class: Death’s Disciple Level: 16 Titles: Pioneer III, True Prodigy, Death Harbinger, Heir to Death, True Defender, Horde Breaker Stats: Strength: 44 (48) Dexterity: 120 (132) Vitality: 79 (84) Intelligence: 59 (64) Willpower: 71 (78)] I had barely reached level sixteen at the end of that last monster wave, which was surprising given just how many of them I had killed since then. Even with my Death Harbinger title giving me an experience boost, the leveling was slow going. I assumed there was just a large power difference between myself and these monster that the System wasn’t giving me very much. I hated to think the experience gap in level had jumped so high since my Class upgrade. In mere curiosity, I had checked the [Consume Experience] to see what the cost would be. As it turned out, the ability didn’t work on a kill by kill basis for that option. It simply calculated the amount needed to the next level up and presented a cost. [Increase Level 16 -> 17: Essence Cost 1,250… Y/N?] The cost was simply too high for me to pay at that time. I knew there would be skills or abilities I would want to steal from a monster or other hunter in the future. If I spent all my essence now, for such a short term power boost, I knew I would be kicking myself later down the line. My [Soul Strike] skill was also something to think about. I needed to spend essence to use the skill, and I didn’t know when I would need to have that in my back pocket. It was far more prudent to save my resources. Luckily for me, the System didn’t seem in a hurry to kick me ou
