1.39 Bean Chapter 39 “Finally, yes!” I quickly brought out the egg from my inventory, and found that it was already starting to show signs of cracking. “Come on little buddy, you can do it.” I said to the small object. It twitched in response, which I took as an indicator that it liked the encouragement. “Just please don’t be a goblin-thing, or be green.” It stopped moving, and I held my breath. Did I make it mad? Was it actually a goblin and it was afraid to come out now? “Come on buddy…” The cracks spread as the egg jostled once more, then it split open and a silvery glow bloomed from inside. I blinked back the stars that appeared in my vision and looked back at my hands to find my new forever-friend. It was a rather unique looking beast, having a lithe body like a cat’s, with silky black fur. But its small-horned head was mixture of bird and canine, with a sharp beak for a mouth. Its legs ended in thick talons, much like a bird as well, but even as it sat in my hands I could feel a softness to the underside of its feet as if it had pads, like a dog. Its tail was tapered like a serpent's, and it ended its fantastical nature by having small black feathered wings sprouting from its back. [Dread Akhekh - Lvl 1] “Well,” I said, looking over the creature resting in my cupped hands. It was kinda… cute. “What you got going on?” [Companion: Dread Akhekh (Mythic - Unique) Level 1: Stats: Strength: 3 Dexterity: 8 Vitality: 4 Intelligence: 5 Willpower: 5 Skills: Spirit Sense, Beginner - Lvl 1, Blood Siphon, Beginner - Lvl 1, Dark Meld, Beginner - Lvl 1 Ability: Corpse Eater (F)] I quickly brought up the information for its skills and ability, wanting to know exactly how useful it would be for me. It wasn’t physically formidable, being only the size of a small cat currently, so I hope it made up for that with its other characteristics. It looked like the little guy was a serious predator, its build designed for hunting creatures down and then consuming their spirit. I looked back to the beast in my palms. It didn’t look like it would be much use in killing anything besides standard small animals, at least so far. But it meshed well with my own class ability, and I could see it becoming a real asset. “Cuh,” the tiny beast cooed softly, nuzzling its beak against my thumb. I chuckled as I scratched its beak and head between its tiny horns, which it seemed to like as it closed its eyes and began to make a noise I assumed was its version of a cat’s purr. “Well, I am guessing you’re hungry after all that work breaking out of your egg right? Do... uh… you like crab?” “Cucoeh,” it responded, blinking up at me. I bent down, setting it on the sand at my feet in front of the large crab corpse. I pointed to the dead beast. “Go on, eat your fill, we gotta get moving soon, there’s a town we need to protect.” The newborn beast waddled through the sand, its
