Chapter 13: A Problem Child Elanore looked at the iron bars in front of her. In either of her lives, she’d never been sentenced for any crime, yet here she was. She flicked the pink caterpillar from her lips and sighed. “I told you that your plan wouldn’t work,” Naela said. “Not only that, but those idiots labeled me as a beastman.” “Hey, look around us. My plan worked perfectly. We’re inside the city, are we not?” Elanore watched the pink caterpillar that once served as her fake mustache crawl away from her. How did her voice acting skills not pay off? The moment she spoke in a deeper voice, the guardsman referred to her as madame. What’s more, her perfectly made horses were considered a fake! The vampire summoned Pot again from her inventory, and he looked around the room. “I take it that your plan didn’t work, mistress?” “Why does everyone keep saying that? Of course, the plan worked. I wanted to get us inside the city, and here we are.” The vampire looked around the room. For a cell it was much nicer than she’d imagined it would be. There were two comfy beds for her and her wyvern. Moreover, the room had nice carpeting covering the floor. “Besides...they put us in such a nice place and gave us a warm welcome.” The wyvern chuckled. “Who knew that caterpillar was poisonous? That’s what made you the most suspicious.” Elanore shrugged. “I had no way of knowing unless I inspected it, but I didn’t imagine that it would be poisonous.” She watched it again, observing it crawl towards the exit of the cell. The vampire rushed to grab it. “I suppose I can store it away in my inventory.” Elanore did exactly that and stowed the live creature away. “What shall we do now, mistress?” Pot asked. “Well, we are in the city, so all we have to do now is escape the prison. Once we get out, we can find a place that sells clothing for our wyvern.” Naela shook her head. “The guard told us to wait for his superior. What happens when that guy learns we left?” “Well, does it even matter? It’s not like they can really do anything. We can slip out of here, find a place that sells clothing, and then look around the city while we’re here. If someone finds us, we have plausible deniability on our side. It’s not like they took a picture of us.” Elanore put her hands on two of the pristine cell bars. “[Transmutation – Powder].” The pieces of iron turned into fine dust and fell on the floor, staining the white carpet black. Well, it’s not my fault they decided to capture the wrong person. If they’d have just let me in, their carpet would not be looking like someone put out a bunch of cigarettes on it. “Perfect, now the two of you should follow me.” Elanore peaked around both corners into the hallway. Off to the left, there was a stained glass window, depicting a heavenly woman. The hallway ended there, and beneath it there was a small shrine with flowers. Off to the right, the hallway continued. Along the wall there were paintings of scenery. There were forests or river basins. “It looks like we can only go that way.” Elanore gestured with her hands, and the two followed her into the hall. It didn’t take them long to find adjoining rooms. There was another cell like the one they’d exited on the right, and on the other side there was a lion colored wooden door. The vampire heard the sound of voices in that room if she focused on it. “Captain, I am telling you that woman is dangerous. She had a [Poisonous Pink Caterpillar] on her bare skin, and it did nothing. Normally, if someone did that they’d show signs of poisoning. Moreover, there were the fangs.” A sigh exited the other man’s throat. “I already told you, Orlon. Housing her here will be more trouble than it’s worth. She seems like one of those trouble making noble women. Do you really want to get involved? The only thing we can do is notify those in connection to the king. This is above our pay grade.” “So you intend to release her?” “Yes.” Elanore frowned and walked away from the door, continuing down t
