Spooky Scary Skeleton Level 30. The world went silent, the sound of her heart thumping the only thing she could hear. The world shook as Rendclaw slammed his skull against the cave. Leave! Lorena snapped out of the trance as the skeleton cackled again, its empty eye sockets staring at her. A bony finger raised toward her chest, shadows swirling angrily around the point. Darkness flooded the cave as Rendclaw’s snout shoved in. Lorena lunged, fists clinging to the short fur around his nose. He snarled and lurched back, bringing her with him. She flinched as an explosion sounded behind her. She couldn’t look. She had to move. Rendclaw’s tongue, wet and rough shoved at her back. Her hands were slipping. She grabbed a whisker as her hand slipped, her weight fully on it. Rendclaw whimpered, then growled and charged. The slickness of drool and blood sent her flying toward the ground seconds before the beast’s head collided with a tree. A groan. She looked up. The skeleton emerged from the rubble, completely unharmed. Her throat pinched tight as she was yanked back by her shirt. She rolled, throwing her shoulder into the ground for extra momentum. A body crashed into her, their limbs intertwining in a painful mess. She still had her knife. “What the hell is that?” Jade hissed. Lorena lowered her knife and pushed to her feet. Her ankle screamed, nearly overwhelming her, amplified by Ren’s own scream. She looked down at her foot and stared, her brain not processing. It was wrong. So wrong. Ren screamed again. “Stop screaming!” Lorena yelled. Jade stared at her. “I’m not—” I can’t! It hurts! “Not you,” she gasped. “The—never mind!” Warmth punched her in the gut and her ankle tingled as Jade threw her a heal. She wasn’t at full health, but she could weight her ankle with only a dull ache. Rendclaw turned, his mouth hung open, a branch sticking out the side of his face. “Gouge him again!” How was she supposed to do that? I don’t know! You’re the fighter. I wasn’t asking you. You wouldn’t listen anyways. I said to run. “Distract him,” Lorena said in an even tone and took off at a sprint. Jade flung three spells back to back and drew the monsters attention. Rendclaw lowered his head, ready to lunge toward Jade. Lorena ran up the branch sticking out of his face and jumped as he shook his head, her momentum carrying her and avoiding the vigorous shaking. Why did you run toward the teeth? Rens warning materialized as large fangs filled her vision. She braced. Rendclaw’s head shifted slightly, just enough. Lorena collided with his lower jaw, wrapping her arms around one of the large fangs. He snarled, his tongue darting out and prodding her. Then he crushed his jaw together. Lorena dropped her grip with one arm, grabbed her Skinning Knife and stabbed hard. The knife stuck in his bottom lip. The mouth closed. She stabbed again and heaved, throwing herself over the top of his snout. A paw was moving. She pulled her knife and fell to the side, up his snout. The knife slid into his left eye and Gouge activated just as the paw caught her torso. She felt a slam. The world went dark. Get up! Ren’s voice was wet. Desperate. A notification glowed. Debuff Gouge Applied Debuff Blinded Applied Her eyes cracked open, just enough to see the skeleton marching toward Jade. She tried to yell, to push to her feet, but her body refused to move. This must be what Ren feels like. Please live so I can gloat about this later. A screech from the skeleton made her ears bleed, bringing a final jolt of adrenaline. She opened her eyes. Glowing chains ascended from below the ground, wrapping around the skeleton. Her interface changed its identification from foe to friend. Jade was dripping in sweat, her teeth bared as she strained with the spell. Lorena tried to push to her feet but dizziness shoved her back down. She inspected the skeletons debuffs. If she couldn’t fight, she could learn. Debuff Mind Control - Jade is controlling the undead creature, allowing her to use it
