To the Black Market Lorena approached the ajar door to the warehouse and slipped inside, senses on full alert. This feels like a trap. The inside of the warehouse was dingy and poorly lit, pretty much what she’d expected. The entire back wall was filled floor to ceiling with unlabeled crates, presumably arcane dust and who knew what else. “Who you?” A man asked as he approached from a sagging folding chair, clearly straining to maintain its shape under his considerable bulk. Lorena used Identify on the man, refusing to believe he was human. Garr, Human Warrior, Level 53 Garr was huge. Not fiery monstrosity huge, but for a non demonically summoned creature, he was closer to an ogre than a human. Do ogres exist in this world? What’s an ogre? A creature back on Earth, looks a lot like this guy. Garr’s bulging muscles rippled under a skin tight tank top, a large cleaver hanging loose in his right hand. “I’m Elvenarr’s assistant, here for a pickup.” Garr scratched his head with the back of his cleaver. “Garr thought Elvenarr’s bitch boy was Warlock. Garr scared of Warlock. You no Warlock. Garr no fear you,” he said the last part with a growl, exposing sharpened teeth. Lorena kept her cool. “He was replaced.” Another growl rippled out of the giant. “Garr don’t like new. ” Lorena rolled her eyes, trying to ignore the twitching muscles in her back that were begging for another fight. She knew she couldn’t win this one, not that she had the energy for another fight at this point. Lorena pulled out the medallion and held it up. “So Elvenarr got himself a cute little Rogue, how adorable.” An eccentrically dressed man said as he emerged from a back room. Gross. He’s staring at our chest. Lorena felt her skin tinge with heat and she crossed her arms. “She came here not invited. Garr don’t like.” The man waved his giant friend away. “She has the medallion. Go sharpen your cleavers.” Garr grumbled and wandered off, keeping an eye on Lorena as he fell back into his chair. The man walked around her, his eyes evaluating every inch of her. She forced herself to stay still and relaxed despite the frustration rising up inside. The man frowned as he came back around. “Are you perhaps an unpaid intern? This armor is truly abysmal.” I’m willing to waive my stance on fighting civilians. Ren said, her voice dripping with malice. Lorena rocked her jaw back and forth at the comment from the man as she tried to remain calm, Ren’s emotions weren’t helping. “Do you have the supplies or not?” The man chuckled. “A feisty one, I see why Elvenarr chose you, among other… Reasons.” Skeletor hungers. Please don’t joke about our sentient curse. I wasn’t joking. Ren said, the comment making Lorena’s skin crawl almost more than the objectification. “Follow me,” he said with a flourish as he turned and led her to a small table in the corner of the warehouse. She could feel Garr’s eyes on her the entire walk across the room and spent considerable energy keeping her hands relaxed and away from her daggers, but not too far away. The man emptied a small leather pouch onto the table, fluorescent purple powder leaving a gentle dusting across the surface. “Would you like to test a sample?” Lorena eyed him with suspicion. She had no idea how to test arcane dust, Harkyn had never mentioned she might need to. She wasn’t an enchanter so it wasn’t like she could just do a minor enchant and call it a day. She decided confidence was the best approach. “Should I need to? Do you really think instilling a lack of confidence in your product to one of the greatest enchanters in the city is a wise decision?” The man gave her a predatory smile. “Lorv used to test each delivery with an admirable meticulousness.” Lorena met his stare. “Yeah, well. I’m not Lorv, am I?” The man took a step forward, towering over her. “That’s precisely my point.” Shit. Time to improvise. That doesn’t tend to go well for us. She rolled her eyes and turned to face the wall of crates. “Open one of those.” “Very w
