Will of the Gods Lorena’s health was at 30% and the forsaken god was screaming in her mind. Ren was gone, hopefully still okay. Lorena withdrew a health potion, the last one she had. She said a silent thanks to Naith as she chugged it. The shadowy hands finally deformed into swirls of shadows on the floor and Lorena bolted toward the western shelf. The secret weapon called to her from her inventory, but it was still too early. She had to hold out just a little longer. Her chest heaved, lungs desperate for air. Lorena peeked through a gap in the stack of scrolls on the shelf and her heart sank as she saw Lorv form a new shield around himself, this one filled with a faint fiery hue. He pointed his staff at the swirling column of shadow. He strained, the staff shaking as he held it. A tendril of fiery mist was drawn from the column to his staff as he began drawing something on the ground with it. A faint sob echoed through her mind, making her blood run cold. “Your pain brings me power! Behold what your suffering creates.” Lorv said, a manic quality to his voice. He was coming undone at the seams. Her jaw dropped as she saw shadows mix with fire, like burning smoke. Two legs formed, then a body. Four arms protruded from the mass of smoke. A large, circular head formed on top, flickering flames for teeth. The creation stood at least fifteen feet tall, the top of its head charring the ceiling of the room. Its roar shook the world. Lorv’s laugh chilled her to her core. Lorena took the item out of her inventory and held it tight in her hand. Harkyn had called it a light crystal, but Naith called it “shadow’s bane”. It would only give her a few seconds of reprieve from the shadows, but it would be enough, she hoped. She had no idea if it would affect Lorv’s creation, but that was fine. She didn’t need to kill it, she just needed to kill Lorv, who was at 30% health. Her bleeds had worn off, but as far as she could tell he had no way of healing. She activated Sprint and rushed counter clockwise around the room, darting between pillars as the creation shot flames at the gaps between the shelves. Fire singed her heels but she kept running. She had one shot. When she was within ten feet of Lorv she activated the light crystal and shielded her eyes. Light flooded the room, so bright she thought she had gone blind. She heard a painful cry, then forced her eyes open. The fiery creation had lost a leg, the one made of shadows, and part of its chest was missing. Lorv was hunched over, hands covering his eyes. But more importantly, his shield of shadows was gone. She landed a Vicious Stab that got him to straighten up and face her. Combo Points (3/5) She followed it up with a Gouge to his right eye, again. He screamed in pain. She dove left as a burst of flames flew toward her as Lorv’s creation regained its strength and started targeting her. She rolled right, landing behind Lorv. The monster tracked her movement, its head slowly turning to follow her. It sucked in a breath and she felt a slight tug as the air funneled into its gaping mouth. It grew in intensity, flames flickering out from every inch of itself. She landed a Backstab into Lorv. Combo Points (5/5) She sank her daggers into his neck for a Precision Strike. She abandoned her daggers, leaving them both in his neck and dove for the shelf. Flames consumed the space where she had been standing. She squinted against the bright orange as she watched Lorv’s robes catch fire. He screamed and fell face first into the pit of fire. The flaming monstrosity was slowly smothered as dark plumes of smoke, or maybe they were shadows, floated over from Lorv’s body and covered the creation. She lay there for several moments, her body refusing to believe the silence was real. Her ears still rang, and her skin stung. The smell of burning flesh hung in the air and she scrunched her nose. Ren? Are you okay? Silence rang. Lorena activated Stealth and closed her eyes, exhaustion overcoming her as her body
