Street Fight Lorena’s legs were still frozen when the Warrior’s sword came crashing down. Luckily for her, the Warrior’s aim was shit. She leaned as far as she could to the right and ducked, the blade just grazing the top of her head, the damage minimal. She struck with a Vicious Stab to the ribs and the Warrior roared. Combo Points (1/5) He swung wildly and Lorena braced as the thick leather armor covering her abdomen took the brunt of the blade’s swing. It knocked the wind out of her, but didn’t break skin. The chains of ice shattered and she leapt for the dwarf, his fingers coiled with flames, his cast nearly complete. She lunged with her Worn Dagger for his eye, landing a Gouge right before the cast completed. Behind! She heard the Warrior grunt at the same time Ren yelled and Lorena crouched, sweeping her leg behind her and knocking the Warrior off balance. His sword came down in a crash next to her. She built on the momentum with a ruthless kick to the ribs. The Warrior gasped, then wet coughs racked his body as he tried desperately to fill his empty lungs. Lorena kicked again, then again. A part of her knew this was a mistake. She was letting the rage take over. She needed to be strategic. But she didn’t care. She was tired of feeling weak. Tired of playing from behind. Tired of depending on others. She had tried to spare these two thugs, and now they’d pay the price. She landed another sickening kick, the elf’s ribs cracking in a satisfying crunch. Then a furnace opened up on her back as the Mage launched a fireball at her. Her skin burned like it was on fire despite the leather armor and Ren’s agony bloomed in her mind. She fell forward, on top of the elf. The smell of burnt leather invaded her nostrils, her back felt like it had been branded. The heat smothered the air from her lungs and she gasped. How had she not realized the Gouge had already worn off? She landed a punch to the Warrior’s face and pushed off the ground, spinning with the momentum to launch toward the Mage. Lorena was yanked back, the Warrior grasping her ponytail. She kicked with her foot but the Warrior caught it. He struggled to his feet, spitting blood onto the pavement as he heaved her up by her knees. Blood rushed toward her head as she hung upside down, her world inverted. Then the Warrior smashed her skull into the cobblestone. The world went white, then black splotches clouded her vision. Her vision returned a blurred mess, no amount of blinking would clear it. A wave of nausea threatened to overtake her. She had a concussion for sure. She tried to focus, tried to figure out what way was up. Please make it stop. Just kill him please . Ren’s voice was desperate. Another slam. The world tilted. She tasted copper. This is how we die. Ren’s voice was far away and shaky. Lorena squinted through the mess of blood and matted hair that filled her vision. Was she really going to die? In an alleyway, to two drunk thugs while her real target walked free? No. Fuck that. The world started to heat. Hotter. Hotter. Hotter. She blinked rapidly trying to clear her vision. “Hold her still,” the Mage said. She could make out the outline of the Mage, consumed by flames as he continued his cast. Her vision cleared and she saw thick ropes of flames coiling around his arms and arcing out dramatically, licking the air. Slit our throat. I don’t want to burn to death . Ren’s voice was hysterical. Lorena squirmed, desperation building at hearing Ren’s words. She needed to survive. To save Ren. She thrashed against the Warrior’s grip but couldn’t get free. His massive arms gripped her arms tight to her sides like coils of steel cables. She thrashed again and managed to get one hand free, but her daggers were on the ground. The Mage cackled and raised his arms in the sky, the coil of flames coming to a singular point. An idea flashed in her mind. It was stupid, and it was going to hurt like hell. But she didn’t have any other ideas. The Mage laughed as he flung his arm
