A girl with a plan I still feel like you haven’t explained the plan very well. There isn’t much to explain. We go in, pose as an important buyer, and get the clerk to reveal the protections the shop has in place. Are you sure we shouldn’t wait another day? Scout the place out a bit more? We’ve spent five days doing that. We’ve learned everything we’re going to learn. If we don’t move soon, Weaver’s crew might. We need to beat them to it. Anxiety wafted over from Ren, what’s the countdown to now? Lorena bit her lip, begrudgingly checking the Everwind Exit Timer in the corner of her HUD. 1181 hours, 45 minutes, 54 seconds. How exactly are you going to manipulate them into revealing their protections? Lorena shrugged, but before Ren could complain anymore she crossed the street and walked confidently into the Emberstrike Forge, noting Naith sitting under the same tree as yesterday. She was greeted by a slender Elven woman who stepped out from behind a counter. Lorena used Identify immediately. Amirsa, Elf, Level 92 Priest “Welcome to the Emberstrike Forge.” Amirsa’s voice was almost lyrical, the rise and fall of her syllables lulling Lorena into a deep sense of calm. Lorena stared into her eyes as the woman approached, completely mesmerized. They were a dark forest green with slight rings of reddish brown. They were large and Lorena was drawn to them, but they didn’t seem out of place on the woman’s slender face. Her lips were full and a dark mauve color, matching the eye shadow she wore. “I’m Amirsa, how can I be of assistance?” the elf said as she took a step toward Lorena. Lorena’s cheeks heated and a nervous energy coursed through her. Are you okay? Something feels weird. “I um—I’m here on behalf of a client.” Lorena could feel Amirsa evaluating her, drinking in every ounce of her essence. “Hmm, a client who’d hire a Rogue with a Skinning Knife for a weapon. How intriguing.” Lorena smiled genuinely, happy to have Amirsa’s attention. “The perfect cover, one would say. For a um—” she cleared her throat, shifting her head to try and look around the shop, but found her eyes glued to the woman. “For a powerful buyer,” Lorena finished. The corner of Amirsa’s mouth twitched, a wolfish grin peeking out behind her smile. It was getting harder to think. Lorena’s mind was heavy with lust and an overwhelming desire to please Amirsa. Something’s happening. Ren’s voice was distant, but that was okay. Lorena should be focused on Amirsa. “And who might your buyer be?” Lorena worked her jaw, the truth almost slipping out. She caught herself, forcing the prepared line out. “They wish to remain anonymous.” Check her buffs! Ren yelled, but Lorena could barely hear her. The rings in Amirsa’s eyes seemed to flare in brightness as she tilted her head to the side, her long hair flowing naturally. Lorena couldn’t help but stare. A weight settled onto her chest. It spread, a grasping numbness that pulled at her thoughts as it climbed up the back of her neck. She could hear Ren grunting, spilling over. Let go. You’re compromised. You need to let go. Lorena hesitated. Something was wrong. She felt herself slipping, like she was sliding off the edge of a cliff. A flare of anger shot through her as pain stabbed at her temple. Ren. Stop. You don’t understand. Break your finger. You need pain to break her spell. Lorena looked down to see her hand flex, then slowly move on its own. Lorena fought for control, demanding it stay in place. Ren cried with the effort as an overwhelming sense of desperation flooded their shared body. Amirsa looked on with fascination. Lorena’s tongue wet her lips. Amirsa was the closest thing she’d come to being in the presence of a true Goddess in her life and the attention was almost overwhelming. The sound of bones snapping broke through the fog, then the pain came screaming. She looked down to see her index finger bent in an unnatural direction, her other hand gripped tightly around it. She scrunched her face up and breathed th
