Potion of Unseen Realities Finally, you’ve been asleep for hours. Lorena bolted upright and checked the time. She had slept twelve hours. She went to get out of bed then stopped. Ren? You’re okay? Couldn’t be better. How are you? Last time we talked—I thought. You seemed weak. Uh, rude. I’m awesome. Who else could have controlled the curse like that? Lorena’s world was spinning. She had slept double the amount of time she meant to. She only had a day left and it was already 10 AM. Ren was alive and seemingly fine. Nothing was making sense. She checked the Exit Everwind Timer. 30 hours and change left. Hey, it’s okay. Ren said, noticing the rising panic in their body. I was pretty strung out, but the sleep did wonders. Lorena closed her eyes and enjoyed the sensation of calm falling over her as Ren let out a soothing sound. She opened her eyes and ran a brush through her hair, which was somehow perfectly clean and not covered in blood. Naith gave you a cleansing potion and put you in bed. That’s nice of her. Yeah, she’s great. Ren’s voice was daydreamy. Lorena put the brush back in her inventory and threw on her boots which were also somehow off, Naith again probably. Her heart swelled at the thought. She opened the door and stormed into the living room. “Good morning Lorena,” Harkyn said as he sipped on some tea. Lorena rerouted her pounding feet toward the table. “Why didn’t you wake me? I said to wake me after six hours.” “Fun fact.” “I don’t have time—” She started, but Harkyn talked over her. “Concentrated willpower is a powerful alchemical creation, allowing one to push past the point of exhaustion through pure willpower alone. However, it does have several costly side effects, one of which is a mandatory twelve hour rest period, which cannot be interrupted by any means, other than death of course.” “Oh,” Lorena said in a small voice. Why didn’t you warn me? Because you deserved it for wanting to be mean to Harkyn. We love him. Well, Naith clearly does, so. Also as payback for not listening to me about the potion, and for not reading the side effects thoroughly. Fair enough. “Sorry, I’m just—” Harkyn waved her apology away. “No worries dear, I know the festival is tomorrow and you are trying to cram as many quests in as possible. In fact, that brings me to my next point.” He stood and took his empty mug to the sink. “We must be going, Naith is patient but she does not like to be kept waiting.” Lorena frowned, “what are you talking about?” “Your final quest before the Festival of Mending Hands blessing, the dungeoneering quest.” Oh! I forgot we still had to do that. This will be exciting. They made their way out of the city and along the familiar roads towards the scattering of villages. Before long they had ditched the roads and were crossing through a field of wildflowers when Harkyn finally asked the question she could tell he had been trying to bring up for the past hour. “Last night, you had mentioned that Lord Shade was your class quest giver, is that true?” “Yeah, is that unusual?” Harkyn ignored her question and asked a followup. “You also said that you worked on poison control, can you clarify what you meant by that?” Lorena’s mind flashed back to the previous night of pain, back on Earth it would have been considered torture by most. But she chose to view it as progress. She had gained two useful skills out of it, after all. Technically only one, you can do the poison crafting, but I do all the curing. Well me and the curse. Lorena rolled her eyes. Great point, thanks for the correction. A thought lingered on the tip of her tongue. Do you think we should tell Harkyn about the curse? I feel like we can trust him, and he would probably know something that could help. Oh, it’s not a problem anymore. She and I have come to an understanding. Lorena scrunched her face. I don’t like the sound of that. What kind of understanding? The kind that keeps us alive, I’ll leave it at that. I’d really rather you not, please expla
