After eating the delicious meal prepared by the white-haired girl, I went deeper into the forest with Luke. The black-haired spearman had apparently decided that he wanted to be the next person whose ancestor I figured out. "I am not the kind of person who just receives things for free," Luke said, spinning his spear casually over his shoulder. "So I think I can help you as well, Mir." I raised an eyebrow. "With what?" "Well…" Luke scratched his cheek, suddenly looking a little careful. "Not to sound rude, but I noticed you do not have much experience with combat in VR games." I stared at him. He smiled. "I am actually an expert in this area, so in exchange for your guidance, I can teach you the basics." "Yeah, this is my first VR game," I admitted. "I am a bit awkward with the weapon." "It is a bit worse than awkward." "Thank you for your honesty. I hate it." "But do not worry." Luke grinned from ear to ear and slapped my back. "I will get you in shape." For some reason, his smile made me feel less like a student and more like livestock being inspected before slaughter. "Now, please summon your weapon." A white spear appeared in my hand with silver sparks. Luke's gaze immediately moved to it. "Your weapon of choice is a spear as well. As a historian, you probably learned about different levels of mastery, right?" I nodded. The spear was one of the most commonly used weapons by ordinary soldiers due to its range, simplicity, and relatively low barrier to entry. In theory, it was one of the best weapons for amateurs. In theory. Reality had recently informed me that even beginner-friendly weapons could still make me look like a drunk scarecrow trying to fight gravity. I had to admit, I was still underestimating the difficulty of handling an actual weapon. "Then try attacking that tree," Luke said, pointing at an old oak nearby. I did not hesitate. I stood in front of the tree like someone about to chop firewood, tightened my grip around the spear, and swung. My posture was terrible. My hands were placed awkwardly. My feet were not supporting my weight properly. Everything about my movement probably insulted generations of spearmen. And yet— The spear passed through the bark like butter. A deep scar appeared across the oak. I looked at it. Then at my spear. "That was not bad, right?" Luke smiled. "Now watch me." He grabbed his ordinary-looking spear and walked toward the same oak. His entire atmosphere changed. The careless smile remained, but his body became still. His knees lowered slightly. His breathing slowed. One foot slid back. His hands adjusted along the shaft of the spear with natural precision. Then he muttered something under his breath. The next instant, his spear moved. Fast. Too fast. The first slash cut into the oak. But Luke did not stop. His body flowed into another posture, then another, each movement connecting to the next without pause. His spear became a line of silver in the air, striking from the side, below, above, then thrusting forward with frightening precision. There was no wasted motion. No hesitation. No break in momentum. The oak trembled. Then it fell apart. Not into large chunks. Into countless clean pieces, as if someone had placed the tree on a cutting board and sliced it apart like vegetables. All of it happened in less than two seconds. I stared at the remains of the tree. Then at Luke. His stats are probably twice mine. "You just thought my stats are definitely higher than yours, right?" I flinched. Luke pointed at me with the end of his spear. "You are wrong. I cannot crush a tree with my bare hands, and I definitely cannot move as fast as you did during the boss battle." "Then how do you explain the difference between our attacks?" Luke smiled and tapped the shaft of his spear against his shoulder. "The Martial Guidance Engine." I blinked. "The what?" "It is one of Epoch's core systems. It allows you to turn your visualization of combat and movement into reality. It does not make you stron
