I did not take the main road, as that might lead me directly into the bandits. Instead, I walked through the forest while keeping close to the road itself. Night fell, and the moon graced the sky with its presence, bathing the forest in its light. To ease my boredom, I started experimenting with the inventory function. "Inventory." At my voice command, the inventory UI appeared. It looked like a classical inventory page. Each stored item had its own square, and if I focused enough, I could see several options. [Modest Pouch] - Equip - Details - Discard I focused on Equip, and the pouch appeared in my outstretched hand along with a silver spark effect. When I focused my mind on storing the item, it disappeared again. So I could interact with the interface directly, but I could also summon or store items using only my mind. "Equip… Store… Equip… Store…" The pouch kept appearing and disappearing from my hand. After doing the same thing for about ten minutes, I noticed that the speed at which the item appeared and disappeared was slightly increasing. Satisfied with my successful experiment, I tried the Discard option. This time, the pouch did not appear in my hand. Instead, it appeared one meter away in the air. The pouch quickly surrendered to gravity and fell to the ground. "So equipping an item makes it appear on my person, while discarding an item makes it appear randomly…" I stroked my chin and fell into deep thought. After collecting the pouch from the ground and storing it back into my inventory, I tried to focus on the furthest place within my field of vision while discarding it. As I predicted, the pouch appeared five meters away from me. A wide grin appeared on my face, and I tried to do the same thing with my spear. The spear, just like the pouch, appeared five meters away from me, but to my disappointment, it appeared diagonally. I repeated the experiment a few more times, but the item's position did not change. I could only choose the general direction in which it appeared. "I hoped this could be used in combat, but unfortunately, this would only give my enemies a weapon to harm me with." I sighed. "Help us!" "Please, spare me!" I came to a stop and focused my head in the direction from which I heard the screams. I dashed that way. The spear appeared in my hand with silver sparks. Soon, I reached the main road. I hid behind the trees and observed the situation. I could see four young adults, all dressed in white shirts and black pants, nearly identical to the beginner gear I had also received. They were fighting against a group of armed men, each wielding a different weapon. But instead of fighting, the armed men were mostly defending themselves, barely trying to survive the onslaught of attacks from the four players. A short black-haired girl murmured something and summoned dark flames that latched onto one of the bandits. The young man in his early twenties, with curly light-brown hair, did not waste the opportunity. He slashed with his sword and took the bandit's head in one strike. Instead of a gruesome scene, the bandit simply fell down and scattered into dust. I sighed in relief. "If combat was more realistic, I would be forced to drop this game." I was a fan of history, but seeing corpses, whether digital NPCs or not, would still leave a scar on my psyche. Soon, with the help of the others, the bandits were quickly cleared out. "Should I just approach them? Feels like it will be a bit awkward now that I did not help and instead watched from behind a tree like a coward." But before I could decide, they made the choice for me. The young man with curly hair soon pointed his sword at the tree I was hiding behind and shouted. "Enjoyed the show? How about introducing yourself, then?" --- Alexios pointed his sword at the old tree and waited His friends gave him surprised looks, but quickly followed his lead and prepared for combat.
