Inside a luxurious office, the sound of heels echoed from walls decorated with some of the most expensive paintings in the world. Anastasia's reflection could be seen on the obsidian floor, polished to mirror perfection. Her eyes did not wander even for a second toward the vast luxury around her. Lamps and furniture made from wood that no longer existed. A pen crafted from pure gold. A table made from ivory. All of it looked insignificant before her beauty, like the light of a lamp overshadowed by the sun itself. She sat down in her chair and breathed out a sigh of exhaustion. "The second part of the plan is done. Soon, the whole world will learn about Epoch, and the whole world will enter it." She spoke alone in the empty room. Yet soon, the screen on her monitor turned on. There, the familiar avatar of Metatron appeared. An eye inside a sphere. Its rings constantly rotated and shifted, making one's skin crawl if one paid attention to how unnecessarily realistic it looked. "You did well," Metatron said. "It will not take long before the memories of the ancient heroes awaken. We must contain it on a manageable scale. Otherwise, your world will end before it ever gets the chance to be judged." Anastasia gently bowed her head to the AI. No. To the being before her. As if it were the creator, and she was the product. A lock of her black hair fell forward and touched the ivory table. "I fully understand what is at stake, Lord Metatron. This plan will not fail." The rings around Metatron's body stopped. Its gaze became profound, as if peering into the depths of Anastasia's soul. "How many descendants did you find?" Anastasia took a second to respond. She tried to control her voice so that it sounded as calm as possible, so that the being in front of her would not see her fear. It was a futile attempt. She knew that. But as someone with pride of her own, it was necessary. Even if it was only to show determination. "We found 9854. We collected a large number of blood samples from around the world. Those include figures such as Hannibal the Great, the Leper Knights, Narcissus, Edward the Black Prince, and Saint Nicholas." She passed the papers closer to the screen. Metatron already knew everything written on them. Of course it did. Yet it asked anyway. Only to see whether Anastasia would lie. This was not a report. It was a test. "What about the child of the Cursed One?" Metatron asked. "Did he fall into the trap you prepared?" Anastasia remembered the report from one of her employees. The subject who had rejected an offer that some people would kill for. "No. Unfortunately, it did not work. But we managed to get him access to Sleipnir. There should be no problem getting him into Epoch." For a moment, nothing happened. Then Metatron's eye appeared on every screen present in the office. The monitor. The wall display. The glass panel beside the desk. Even the small device was lying near Anastasia's hand. All of them opened their eyes at once. "We will be watching." As soon as those words were spoken, all the screens turned off. The office was once again engulfed in deadly silence. Anastasia remained still for several seconds. Only then did her trembling hand reach into a drawer. From it, she took out a slim black cigarette and a lighter adorned with diamonds. She lit it, placed the cigarette between her lips, and breathed out smoke. Only her thoughts accompanied her. And even those no longer felt entirely private. --- After the livestream ended, the Director stood up and clapped to get everyone's attention. "As thanks for our help during the development of the AI, the higher-ups of NGI decided to gift every employee who worked on the development one Sleipnir capsule. Of course, you are not allowed to sell it, and you need to sign a non-disclosure agreement before they are delivered." With that, the Director passed the papers to everyone except for the few employees who had not worked on the project. "I wonder how much it would sell for
