After stepping off the bus, Dobromir found himself standing in front of the National History Museum. It was the largest museum in his region and the second-largest in the whole country. Technically, the largest museum was privately owned. Technically, it counted. Emotionally, Dobromir refused to accept it. That place resembled an amusement park more than a museum, with dinosaurs as its main theme and children screaming near plastic bones, so people genuinely interested in history usually chose this museum instead. At least, Dobromir liked to believe that. The National History Museum had impressive collections of relics, old documents, weapons, coins, paintings, and enough dusty objects to make any normal person lose interest within ten minutes. For Dobromir, however, it was close to paradise. Of course, it could not compare to a certain museum in England. But then again, most museums in the world could not compare to that monster. Thinking about it too much was unhealthy for the pride of smaller nations. For Dobromir, his biggest achievement was managing to secure a position here. In the past, this museum had been prestigious. Although people were far less interested in history now than they were during its glory days, it was still a respectable institution. At least most of the time. Dobromir soon reached the entrance. He scanned his employee ID card and smiled at the security guard, who was drinking coffee near the metal detector with the solemn dignity of a man guarding a kingdom. "Good morning, Carl. How did your appointment with the doctor go?" Noticing Dobromir, Security Guard Carl smiled warmly. "I was in luck. The nurse was a pretty hot ginger girl." Dobromir opened his mouth. Then closed it. He had wanted to ask about the test results, but looking at Carl, who was smiling like a fool despite already being over fifty, made him think everything was probably fine. Or at least, Carl had decided that pretty nurses were more important than his own health. Which was also a possible lifestyle choice. "Did you manage to ask for her number?" Carl shook his head. "No. I am just happy admiring. And that girl could be my daughter, for heaven's sake. Much more suited for someone like you." With a mischievous grin, Carl slid Dobromir a piece of paper with the address of a clinic written on it. "Someone like that would be much more suitable for you. What about getting a check-up and maybe securing a date with that girl? I heard from the doctor that she is single." Dobromir sighed from exhaustion. This old man and his antics. What are you, a matchmaker? Is your last name Tinder? Dobromir was well aware of his looks and his popularity with the opposite gender. Which was to say, he had none. It was something he had known and accepted long ago, yet lately his colleagues seemed to have decided that he needed to find a partner. They started throwing several female relatives at him and inviting him to all sorts of events where one could supposedly find a match. Dobromir appreciated their thoughts. Really. In theory. In practice, it was getting incredibly annoying. "Are the others already here?" Dobromir asked, quickly changing the topic before Carl could start describing the nurse's personality, blood type, and future compatibility. Carl nodded. "Aside from Noel, most are here. But you know him. He is always late. Jean was actually searching for you." What does he want so early in the morning? Dobromir thanked Carl and moved deeper into the museum, heading toward Jean's temporary office. Jean was the person from the game company who had been working closely with the museum to secure all the information they needed. Old records. Relics from the past. Historical notes. Scanned objects. Descriptions of clothing, weapons, tools, architecture, and every little thing that could make a fictional historical world feel more real. All that information would be collected, categorized, and then sent to the game company, which would feed it into its AI.
