I awoke the next morning to the sound of my alarm from my phone going off across the room. With a groan, I pulled myself up and went to turn it off before going to get ready for school. The best way to make sure you get up is to put your alarm as far away from your bed as humanly possible. That way, you are forced to get up and are more likely to get yourself out of bed, or that was my excuse. Either way, I was up and headed out my door with time to spare. After getting off the bus and answering a few messages from Nathan about Ani-CON, which I was sure he would repeat at school. Multiple times. Just the thought made me unconsciously roll my eyes as I spotted him waiting for me at the school entrance. "You better not blow me off, or magically forget!" Nathan warned me as I tried to walk by him whistling and pretending not to notice him. "Hey! Jerk face coat rack! Don't ignore me!" I whirled around on him and jabbed a finger in his direction, but he walked by me at the same time, making me look like an idiot to two girls walking up to the school. Both of them giggled as I stood frozen and they walked by, and could only shake my head and let it hang as I turned around to see Nathan snickering at my expense! "Oh, I am going to kill you! To hell with the CON! You aren't going to live until lunch!" I yelled, my depression burned away by my fire indignation. 15 minutes later, and getting yelled at by two teachers for running, and then again for being late for our first class by Mr. Sanjay. Both of us got extra work, but the math class flew by uneventfully until near the end when everyone else was packing up. That was when Nathan walked over with a shit eating grin and his hands behind his back. "So, are you gonna be ready for the new game? Did you try to look up anything on it?" Nathan asked as I finished packing. "No, and why would I? Unlike you, I don't read guides, or ruin any of the game by trying to look up spoilers," I said, and then narrowed my eyes on my best friend. "On another topic. I did quite extensive research about Ani-CON, yes. It seems that they aren't even having a model kit display due to some bad scheduling.... You don't know anything about this? There also was no mention of special new mechanized armor models even if they did come. Curious, you know? I clearly remember you saying something that goes against this carefully procured information that I can almost say with certainty is truth, which I cannot say the same for what you told me yesterday..." Nathan was sweating and backed up slowly until he hit the teacher's desk, but when I went to move around my desk, a loud buzzing stopped me in my tracks, and everyone filed out, leaving Nathan and me behind. "Nathan, I do believe that you have something for Allen, correct?" Mr. Sanjay asked, and Nathan froze like a deer in the headlights, but then suddenly brightened up. "Yes! Here!" Nathan exclaimed, shoving a game case into my hands before running off, but just before he left the room, he looked at me with a grin. "So are you going to Ani-CON?" "I will end you or maybe just any chance of you continuing on your family line!" I growled, shaking the game case at him as Nathan laughed and sped out of the room. "You really changed over the last year and a half?" Mr. Sanjay said, and I sighed. "If you mean by getting less of a stick shoved up my backside, then yes, I would agree," I grumbled, and my old teacher gave a chuckle. "I think it is good that you have such a good friend that wants you to come out. I know how much your projects and games mean to you, but you are going to have to face the real world at some point. Not that I think you will have trouble," My teacher said with a sigh. "You are one of the strongest and most resilient that I know, even among adults. Mr. Williams did a good thing by helping you out, but I think that both of you have benefited." I knew he was talking about Nathan. While I didn't know much about his past, his father had told me that he
