I could only stand there and watch as the rockets struck the battle platform as I moved the green target sight of my ability over the boss, locking on. Once in place, the targeting locked onto the battle platform and stayed in place even as it turned away from me, and began firing at Nathan. "60%, 80%..." I muttered as the rockets bombarded the massive metal spider-like platform, and then took in a deep breath as the Brittle status gauge reached 100%. "FIRE!" The massive railgun let out a thunderous crack as the Big Bang shell was magnetically catapulted forward, and I felt a wave of satisfaction as the massive glowing shell hit the center of the boss. The 5-inch shell didn't explode, but instead burrowed into the target before detonating. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM "YES!" I shouted, pumping my fist as the boss's body exploded into a million pieces, and the system message popped up. "Congratulations. You have achieved the "A Pair of Aces" Achievement. 20,000 Experience, 20,000 Gears, and the title, "A Pair of aces" are your rewards." The monotone voice announced as the system message appeared. "WE DID IT!" Nathan roared, and I sighed as I swiped away the window. I was happy and excited, but there was also a feeling of loss with it. I had played every mech game that there was, and then the next one wasn't going to be released for another year. I could replay my other games, but I always made a point to do everything there was to do and get every achievement. That meant no matter the game, I would just be doing the same thing I had already done, and I hated that. "Hey! At least cheer or something!" Nathan snapped, and I sighed again. "Sorry. I am happy, but it is bitter sweet, ya know? This marks the last time I am going to play a mech game for at least a year, and I am feeling a bit down," I admitted, and he was silent for a few seconds before laughing. "I can't believe how weird you are," He laughed, and I could hear the relief. "This is a huge achievement! We can brag about it forever! Plus, this is the first time you ever did something with another person! You're making progress!" "Shut up, not like we can talk to other people about this stuff" I muttered, but smiled. It was true. I had played many games with Nathan, but this was the first one that required another real person to get all the achievements. He would get bored from most other games we played that were mech based, and I was vice versa with fantasy games, but I would secretly grind all the achievements solo, even if I didn't like the game. Something about leaving a game without getting every achievement felt like a disservice to the people that put in the effort to make the game. "I wouldn't be disappointed. Remember, the next game is my pick now, and I have one that I think you will like, even if it isn't up your alley," Nathan laughed as we both exited the game to virtual space. "Oh?" I asked as an avatar of my real body formed in the open white space. I was 5 '9 and thin as a rail, so not exactly a manly looking guy, and my long dark hair pulled back and pale complexion did not help. "What is it?" "It is a fantasy game called 'Magicalia: The Real World'. There is no limit on your level or what your class can do, and there are no stat screens, meaning everything is based on how much you learn and experiment," Nathan explained. "No stats, levels, or classes? How do they determine a character's strength then?" I asked. "Well, you technically get a class, but you don't get to pick it. Something about the game being able to use an algorithm to match up with something the new VR helmet you will be getting tomorrow can scan. There are different skills, and each one has its own progression, but there is no limit to how much you can progress. You can also learn any skill, but not everyone you will be good at," Nathan continued. "Sounds complicated. Are they trying to make some kind of skill based MMO?" I asked, starting to feel unsure about the game, but Nathan laughed, and I cau
