Chapter 6: The Human Condition I looked up to see a girl I had seen at my school, but what was her name? "Sorry about that," I mutter, feeling flustered suddenly because I finally realized who this girl was and I scramble to my feet and turned to start walking in the wrong direction, but a hand on my arm stopped me, along with my heart and breathing, but who pays attention to those silly old things? "You dropped this," a sweet sounding voice said from behind me, and I turned around like my joints had five years of rust on them. Ciara Clarence, or CeeCee as her friends called her. While not the most popular, or the most beautiful in general beauty standards, she was still one of the girls in my school’s big top 4. And while they were all nice, all of those women were way out of my league. This cute face with a slim figure and piercing green eyes that looked up at me with a smile that was way too warm. Was it getting hotter outside? Ciara laughed, and stepped back while holding my game out to me with that same radiant smile that was so warm I felt like my skin might start to smoke! Maybe this was really an angel coming to exact punishment of a miserable demon such as myself? I felt like I was grasping at straws, but goddammit! Never had any girl done anything but point and laugh at me, so this wasn't far from normal, but something was clearly wrong or different. Were they different? Was wrong more different than different? Bah! I needed to get out of my head and say something! "T-Thanks!" I stammered out, and almost facepalmed before I caught my in-game gesture that had become second nature after playing games with Nathan so much lately. Ciara smiled at me, and I felt like I was going to be sick or pass out, and she noticed. Then everything got much worse as she tried to move close and put her face up to mine. Nothing in my reclusive life so far had prepared me for an interaction so suddenly like this with the opposite sex, and I promptly passed out. When I came too, I was laying down on a bench with my head on something soft. I kept my eyes closed and decided I had gone to heaven and this was my apt reward for being such a growlly little reclusive turd... Wait, no, I don't think that is how heaven worked, but the softness my head was resting on might as well have been a cloud. "Are you alright?" a familiar voice asked, and I froze. No, this wasn't heaven! I had gone the other way! This was Hell! With a start, and a bit of a struggle, I was able to sit up, narrowly missing my… what was she? A demoness? An angel? Goddammit, could my heart please stop hammering on the eject button? It was beating so hard and fast It might as well be in a race for my life! I sucked in a whole bunch of air, even using my hands to try and scoop it into my mouth, and finally got my 17 year old body to calm down and turn to a concerned looking Ciara, who was sitting on the edge of the bench and watching me closely. "I tried to take your temperature like my mom does for me, but then you passed out. I checked, but once you passed out, you seemed to cool down, and you weren't nearly as red," Ciara informed me, and my brain was having a hard time putting it all together, and then it clicked. "You were checking to see if I was having a fever?!" I asked, and she nodded. "Yup. I was worried when you passed out, so I checked by pressing my forehead to your. You weren't very red when I saw you walk off, but the closer I got, the redder your face got. I am going to guess that you don't have much experience with women?" She asked, and that heated feeling started again at her loaded question she asked with such an innocent look. Did she really ask me if I was a virgin? No, I am clearly reading this wrong. "I, umm, I mean..." I asked, and felt the sickness coming on again like boulders cascading into my stomach. Was I sick with some ailment? Incurable disease? Scoliosis?! Seeing my face, Ciara started to laugh, but unlike normal, I didn't mind that she was laughing
