Chapter 26: Emerald Sea Encounter Nearly four days of traveling north finally brought us to some different terrain, but it made everyone that mattered, me, nervous. My minions did what I said, and that was that, but I still felt uneasy as I looked out across the sea of 6 foot tall emerald green glittering grass for as far as I could see forward. On my left and right, canyon walls over 300 feet tall rose up and vanished in the east and west like a long border from the forest we were now leaving. The canyon walls were so close, and so steep, that it felt like we were being led to a slaughterhouse. "This doesn't feel right," I mumbled to myself as I studied the area. "Bones! How are your senses?" "They are fine," the undead troll answered as he walked behind the palanquin. "What do you think?" I asked, but one of my imps, now in the shape of a quad blade drone buzzed down from up above. "Master! There are strange humans up ahead!" Crack asked, her drone from now with a black body with yellow stripes like a bee on the body and rotor. Chip was the same, but with pink. Very scary, I know. I turned from Bones as Crack hovered near my face so I could reach out and rest my hand on the metal and bone frame of her body. As I did, a vision of descending from the sky at high speed took over my own, and the sharp reduction of speed just above what looked to be a flickering caravan of 10 wagons almost made me lose my stomach. Once I was able to tame my roiling guts, I got a better look and a frown appeared on my face. "Now that is strange," I muttered, pulling myself from the vision and mentally calling for a halt to my 80 minions that were carrying my palanquin. As they all lowered the 4 foot tall platform down on its numerous supports, the humanoid skeletons in crude armor poured out like ants. Without a word, they started to tear out the tall grass from the area we had already walked, and gathered it in a big pile on the platform in my backyard experiment area. After my mental orders were sent, I went inside the house to find Harold. He was currently laying in a ray of sunlight coming through a window, and his armor gleamed. He was very proud of his armored body like a real cat was of its fur, and liked to take care of it. "What do you see?" The cat asked, not opening his eyes. "We have a caravan of 10 wagons up ahead, with a total of about 60-70 men, women, and children," I said, and one eye on his digital screen opened. "And?" I felt my face heat a bit, but I hadn't really looked at any of the females. "A couple things. This first is that they are all flickering, missing frames, and naked. Next is that I can see name text above their head, and a number that is moving, albeit very slowly. From what I can tell, they are aware, but all of them are on some kind of programmed movement path. I would guess that these are the general motions and paths each ai NPC is given to take, but without the ability to choose or respond," I explained, and his other eye opened. "How are they armed? Are they men?" Harold asked. I thought back, and tried to recall. "Some. Not all. It looks like the men are carrying weapons, and the women and kids are either hiding in the wagons, or running around. Why? What are you thinking?" Harold stretched. "Why did we stop then? We can just go around them, right?" I shook my head. "No, I am not going to scar myself by accidentally peeping at someone's grandma, and we are going to have to come back this way. I still don't know how the world works, but everyone, even the kids, had a number over 190 and rising. Normally NPC can't attack a player, but the game isn't loaded. This might mean they don't even notice us, or they do, and get mad for leaving them naked. Who knows, right?" Harold sighed and hopped off his perch, landing gracefully next to his chair and jumping into it. "Fine, if you want to help them, just leave me out of it. I would prefer to not be in a tight pass with long grass if monsters start appearing." "Sure
