After what feels like days in this desert we haven’t stopped, at least not for long. Its always brief for recovery and always just enough rest for me to keep going before exhaustion can kick in and even then he never stops. He expands that shroud around us constantly while we rest and somehow Xander seems just fine. But when I ask him about it, about how he’s so used to it here he breaks for a moment and I see that shift in his eyes. Where the ripples fizzle out and his eyes fall flat before they start up again and he fed me a lie. I might not know him that well but maybe it wasn’t just me who needed someone all the way out here in the sand. And even if he won't admit it, Xander loves this place we’re heading too. I think it's his home. He talks about it from time to time whenever it comes up while teaching me where to strike when I’m fighting to take one of these beast down. But what gets him going the most is this “friend” of his, he refuses to admit is him wife. I mean seriously if I didn't know any better I’d say she’s his life so I had to ask. “Why don't you go back to see her or at least let her know you're okay after so long away?” Freezing in his tracks for a moment with a cube in hand, Xander lowered his head and stared at the star in the sky. “When you meet someone that talented you can't help but want to see them at their best. This time away from her so she can grow into a star is hard for me but I could never never live with myself if I snuffed out my star. So the best I can do is watch her shine effortlessly from a far until I can join her one day.” It honestly caught me off guard for a moment. I never expected anything but his reply… that truth was too value to be a lie. When it comes to her and how he feels Xander didn’t hide the distinct warmth when he spoke about her, he didn’t even try. It’s something about that soft spoken sincerity that brought a tears to my eyes, freezing them go my face. “Do you ever get scared she’ll forget you after so much time away?” Contorting his face as he turns to me trying not to laugh, Xander opened the cube, projecting a blue codex onto the sky with a purple signature pulsing just past the edge of the desert merging into a map. “That markers her energy signature and she’d never do that. Because ever since I left she’s been growing stronger than ever just to bring me back.” Yeah she's definitely his wife or girlfriend at least. But I can see why he's one devoted man to say the least. Even under this gloomy green sky filled with smog and endless creatures trying to rip him in two, Xander still finds a way to think only about you. “Hey pay attention! Something big is tracking us and closing in fast. Wait- there’s multiple readings other readings and their coming from the sky?!" Pushing a silver watch in my hand, Xander spun me around threw me far back across the sand as the clouds split and a pack of massive beast with tusk like talons, packed tight like tendrils tore through the ground. Leaving divots in the sand. “Pay attention! It’ll only take a moment for it to crush you under its hand! Remember what to do!” You say that but I don’t have time to think about a plan right now, it’s do or die! But I do remember what you said so as soon as I find an opening to strike this menace with wings ten times my said I’ll get back to you on that. Two shot past me and rushed back into the sky just as fast as they came with so much pressure, each motion carried them higher into the sky faster than I could see. Making it even harder to track them while surfing through the clouds, waiting for another chance to attack. But I can’t sit here waiting or I’m playing right into there hands so my best chance it to move around and make some space. If I can bait just one out of formation, I can take it down! I rushed around Xander in sporadic half circles movements until I was just far enough away to capture their eyes. Gambling it all on the fact they won’t be able to resist the temptation of pulling
