CHAPTER IV: RECOLLECTION ; part 1 ; how it all began — At the base of the towering creature, stood upon a glowing platform were two small figures... one very tired, one very still, And one of them is watching back . Its central eye was an enormous cross-shaped golden pupil, ancient and lidless, surrounded by a crown of smaller orbiting eyes that drifted lazily like planets around a sun. Below it, barely visible in its domineering shadow, a figure stared upward. Dread slapped on his face ,With the expression of regret. Wallowing up to his throat then into his mouth ,a liquid metallic taste filled his mouth. All of Kuro's orifices let out streams of crimson,as he cried with tears made of blood. 'MNEMOSCOPUS: THE THOUSAND-EYED WITNESS' those words rattled within his skull as they came accompanied by the creature's almost holy visage. "Never dare gaze directly upon godhood... " The entity intoned, its voice carrying the resonance that had existed long before the concept of warning, "…unless you seek suffering.” Its focus was on the young, foolish, impatient, young man who directly gazed upon its visage. "I've been curious about you ever since you fell into Makai. My gaze has always lingered upon you." "Never in my elongated existence...” it lamented, its many eyes contracting and expanding with the rhythm of its speech, "...have I ever come across a being such as yourself..." Its gaze pressed down. deeply interested, "I know much about you. More than you know yourself... however, I want to see more..." One of its orbiting eyes drifted closer, peering onto the bewildered fool. Its cross-shaped pupil of its central eye dilated, as its iris glowed with a golden luminous glow. "Let me have a glimpse, And taste your story." A tear in space and time itself opened slowly, then all at once. As the space peeled apart ,within it was a great crimson eye, revealing an interior pupil that was neither inside nor outside anything, and both at the same time . And within that pupil was the treacherous Kuroshiraga Arufa. And just like a great crimson eye would, its lids closed as the tear in space-time sealed. Kuro had vanished within the rift. --- 2 YEARS BEFORE THE HAMATSU INCIDENT. Ordinary residential buildings sat quietly one early morning, their concrete edges softened by overcast light. Just the ordinary architecture of an ordinary day in an ordinary city. Within one of the rooms of one of the ordinary residential buildings, on the bed, a young man with striking silver and black, dual-toned hair, stirred lazily beneath his blankets. 'We all have a different definition of living.' 'Experiences create who we are, good or bad, loud or quiet. Each one stacks on the last... shaping who we later become.' In the darkness of the room, three beeps, then silence, then three more, each echoed within the enclosed space. 'Looking back, I feel nothing.' The alarm read 05:00. The young man was already awake, his piercing gaze indifferently looking at the noisy, vibrating device. He lay on his side, the markings on his torso caught the dim light penetrating the window. The desk beside him and the surrounding walls all had notes stuck onto them. '… For I have nothing to look back to.' '…Most humans fail to realize that the pain from their experiences isn't a leaderboard. Different wounds hurt in different ways… comparison doesn't heal anyone.' Sitting up, and getting off his bed he reached over and clicked off the light. The markings on his torso and arm had been there as long as he could remember… Which given the circumstances, was not saying much. He dressed around them each and every morning, He thought about them each and every morning, and he arrived at no conclusions each and every morning. He unhurriedly freshened up himself and put on his school's attire, then he prepared a bit of instant ramen that he quickly ate before leaving his empty residence. 'These are the words I apparently left myself.' 'I long for growth. However, it's a concept I am incap
