Chapter 36: Luna Luna winced at the pain in her hands, one day outside the tank, and she had a hole in one hand and cuts on the other. Adam would be pleased, at least, at the chance to be of use to the ‘Silver Princess.’ The thought would have made her roll her eyes if she hadn’t been wincing in pain already. Avraham came over and looked down at her lying on the ground, a smile on his lips. “Good job back there.” Luna felt good about being praised, but that feeling quickly soured as she winced again in pain and remembered what Avraham had done. “Why did you stop me from weaving? And just what was that power?” “Because the High Inquisitor would have noticed it, and it’s way too soon for that. This is actually the perfect time for you to learn how to weave your soul essence into your own body, which is by far the easiest application. Try to conceal the wound on your hand and stop the blood flow.” Luna tensed up, trying to focus on catching the threads of her soul again. She grasped at them, and they came quickly to her; she guided that essence first to her hand with which she had stopped Zuri’s first blade throw. Nothing happened; the essence she had gathered was at her hand, but it wasn’t melding with her body. She tried to force it around the wound like a bandage, but the structure would collapse. “Your control is too lackluster for you to weave something external; your body is already connected to your soul, and both of them are familiar with each other. Try to weave your soul essence into your skin, feel it become one with you, no different from the parts of your body around it. When you have done that, try to go deeper, touch your blood capillaries with the soul threads, use them as your sense of fine control, and repair the damaged arteries one by one.” Luna silently followed Avraham's instructions. It was true; she could use her soul essence to fine-tune her senses. She could feel the skin layer where it had been cut, and she could feel her damaged tissues and blood vessels as well. She willed the gaps in the arteries to close, the threads to condense and wind together into the shape she wanted them to take, and the tissues to repair next. She finished making an artificial skin layer, and the wound closed. She had closed her eyes and had been seeing the world through the threads of her soul essence. Once open again, she looked at her hand; the hole in her hand seemed to have been patched up, but there was a slight glow on her new skin. “I did it!” Luna exclaimed out loud. Realizing she hadn’t held her excitement, she turned to look at Avraham’s face, and she saw the barest hint of a smile on his face as well. Her own face lit up as well. As she continued looking at her hand. She got up from the ground. As soon as she was on her feet, she felt the strain; it came from somewhere very deep inside her. She felt for her soul once more, and she saw the threads pulling out of it. As usual, she couldn’t directly look at the source from which her essence threads materialized, so she followed the threads to her hand and the parts of her hand she had rebuilt. She had thought the structure she built would be independent now that she had woven it, but in front of her, more and more of her essence poured into the hand as time passed by, and her soul was bearing that cost. Soon, the structures began collapsing, and Luna forced out more essence to rebuild them. But they were collapsing at a faster rate than she could mend them. She poured more and more of her essence into it, willing herself to succeed. This was her first major success in a while; she wouldn’t fail at this, she couldn’t. She had been patient. She had been diligent. ‘NO!’ her mind roared at the fading threads of her essence. She would demand more, she would extract more. Her whole being screamed in protest. It was like reality rejected what she was trying to do, as if her body pulled her in one direction and her soul in the other. Like, both of them refused to obey her wi
