Chpater 35: Luna Luna tsked at herself; she should have asked Adam how long she was in the tank for. The old doctor unnerved her, so she decided against returning to the medbay. She called Niko on her HPC instead. Niko picked up as she placed her earpiece in. “Rise and shine, Yelena. How are you feeling?” “I feel excellent, but I’ve just been summoned to meet the High Inquisitor.” “Oh!” “Yeah, that’s the sentiment I had as well. So, is there anything I should know before heading in, and how long was I out for?” Niko thought for a moment before replying. “The Inquisitor visited you as soon as Avraham had you put in the tank. You were quite the sight, she was surprised to say the least. You’ve been in the tank for about 28 hours.” “Really?” That knowledge surprised Luna. No wonder she felt like she had gotten the best sleep of her life. She had been out for more than a day. “Wait, she came to see me? Why?” “Who knows, the high Inquisitor didn’t see fit to explain her intentions to the likes of me, Yalena. Oh, she was accompanied by her own apprentice, a girl. She’s a mean little thing… Oops, shouldn’t have said that.” Luna laughed. Niko really was a breath of fresh air. “Let’s see, one more thing, you’ve been kicked out of the captain’s quarters. Avraham gave them to our guests. You and Avraham, the training room was the only other room big enough, so it has been converted into your and Avraham’s private room.” ‘Fair,’ thought Luna. She didn’t resent being sent to live in the training room; it was actually perfect. She wanted to train, and for the first time, she was looking forward to it. “Thanks, Niko. You’re the best.” “Just be careful, Yalena.” ‘What are the chances Niko knows my true identity as well?’ Luna thought as she cut off the link between them. She had reached the conference room. She pinged the door controls, but they wouldn’t open for her. Figures she was locked out of the system where the High Inquisitor was involved. The door suddenly popped open, and Luna found herself face-to-face with a young girl. Luna would put her at about the same age as she herself was. The girl was taller than her, so she had to arch her neck to look at her. Luna had never seen a person with such an exquisitely dark skin tone as hers; she was midnight made flesh. She wore a combat suit, which allowed Luna to appreciate her physique. It was so impressive that it was easier to imagine her having been sculpted in a genetics lab rather than borne naturally. Which she might as well have been, genetic modifications were common these days. The Inquisitorial institutions did not adhere to the same standards of genetic purity as the nobility. The girl leveled Luna with a stare, her golden eyes as dangerous as they looked beautiful. She saw Luna’s black uniform with the living flame insignia and smiled, or whatever passed for a smile on that stern face of hers. “I am Zuri Constella, apprentice to High Inquisitor Azarea Constella,” the girl announced. “I would know your name, Red Sister.” Zuri finished. “Yalena Darkflame,” Luna replied, matter-of-factly. It seemed like Zuri had expected more. “Oh, just let her in already. She’s the hound's apprentice; she must be as oblivious to our customs as he is. And I really do not want to listen to more of your incessant screaming.” A sharp voice from inside the room, it was Azarea. The older woman, who looked no more than 20, but her sharp, predatory gaze betrayed the years of experience she had as an Inquisitor. Luna gulped silently as Zuri stepped to the side and bowed to her Master. Avraham was sitting inside as well, in his Inquisitorial uniform. The Crimson Coat with the golden flame insignia. It was the first time he had worn it since the day they had boarded. “So, child, come closer, don’t be shy. Let me have a look at you when you’ve not been beaten bloody by this beast.” Luna shuffled closer, shadowed by Zuri. ‘This girl doesn’t have a sense of personal space at all.’ Luna stood in front of Azarea,
