Chapter 34: Luna As the liquids drained from inside her tank, Luna went from being suspended in the tank to standing on her two feet. Most of the bruising on her body had already subsided. She could even say she felt better than before. As the liquid level receded below her waist, she removed the oxygen mask covering her face to help her breathe. She then removed the multiple cannulas from her arms and waited impatiently for the tank to open. As it did, she stepped out. She felt good; she couldn’t remember the last time she had gotten to sleep like that. And the medicinal fluids had worked wonders on her body; she felt like she was at her peak, no, it felt like she had surpassed it, healed of all aches and pains and improved in ways she couldn’t yet understand. She had been scheduled for this medical suspension for a very long time, but Avraham had never let her rest long enough to complete the whole procedure. But that wasn’t why she was impatient. The last thing she remembered before waking in the tank was how she had finally managed to control her soul essence. She had felt such profound elation at that moment that nothing could compare to it. She wanted to explore more of it. The only way she could would be to immediately head to the captain’s quarters reserved for her and Avraham. She felt her weight; it seemed the ship was in its higher G burn. Avraham was likely on the bridge; maybe she could get him to come down, too. Luna was so excited about the prospect that she barely registered the doctor on duty addressing her. “Oh, I apologize… Sir,” Luna finished awkwardly, not remembering the man’s name. “What were you saying, and would you be so kind as to tell me your name?” “My name is Adam. It is my great honor to make your acquaintance, Your Highness. I just wanted to provide…” Did she hear him right? Luna instinctively backed away, her eyes darted around the medbay for any sort of weapon, she remembered she was a weaver, maybe she could reach for her soul essence. ‘No, I’m too inexperienced with it.’ Adam stopped talking when he saw Luna backing away and smiled at her innocently. “How did you find out?” Luna asked. She knew she had enough skill to kill this man, but could she really do it? Kill a man just for knowing a secret she wanted kept hidden. “There is no reason for alarm, my Lady. I am but your humble servant. I have known since the start. I am the ship's doctor. I was handpicked by Lord Avraham for events just like this. Your disguise needed to be maintained while you were suspended or if you needed immediate medical assistance.” “Avraham himself picked you? You do realize that I could just ring him on the comm right now, or kill you before you even make a move?” Luna threatened. “I would relish that death, princess, because I know you wouldn’t handle a life like mine with the carelessness of your kin. It is precisely why all of us follow you. You lack the baser appetite that most of your kind enjoy.” Luna observed as Adams's features twisted with anger as he said that last part. But soon the old doctor’s smile was back, “You will never have anything to fear from me. Avraham procured a new mask for when you were done. I was just about to hand it over to you.” “Oh, please go ahead then,” Luna replied. “Oh, it was my absolute pleasure. I can say I was threatened by the silver princess herself. A tale I think my grandchildren might enjoy. They absolutely adore you. I am also happy to have personally worked on the enhancement procedure for you. I am loath to admit, I have served the empire my whole life, and this was the only time in my career where I am proud of my work.” Adam replied cheerfully. Luna didn’t know what to say to the proud doctor, so she smiled instead. “The only time it might be used for the right fight.” Adam finished. “What fight? The one the rebels are fighting? Are you with them, or are you one of those who follow me through the digital net? And why do you all insist on calling me the princess?
