The young woman was strikingly beautiful, and her refined features suggested a pampered and comfortable life. Her current state, however, destroyed that impression. Torn, dirt-and-blood-stained clothes, disheveled black hair, and a visibly injured body indicated she had barely escaped a fatal ordeal. “Please! Please! They're going to kill me!” the woman continued rambling as she clutched tightly to Winter's collar. Winter glanced at her in confusion before immediately yanking her hands away from him. He pushed her aside lightly and frowned. “Get out, madwoman!” he yelled and grabbed her by the wrist, ready to throw her out, but the young woman was unwilling to leave as fear filled her eyes. “No, no... please, they'll kill me,” she said, struggling against Winter's manly grip. She was Winter's age, nineteen, and thus Winter didn't believe whatever she was saying. She resembled an Elysian citizen. Winter knew that Elysian youths were spoiled brats who caused trouble. Again, the usage of hard drugs had grown drastically amongst youths. The young woman might have taken a puff and then lost her mind. If he threw her out onto the streets, she would probably regain her senses the next morning when she found herself sleeping on the dirty floor of Cedar. All her pleas fell on deaf ears as Winter pushed her out of the cottage and slammed the door shut. “Please! They'll kill me...” her voice slowly disappeared, overshadowed by pitiful wails. Back inside, Old Ren slowly stood up and frowned slightly. “Do you really have to do that? Why not hear her out first?” The old man felt pity for the girl. “They'll bring nothing but trouble. Didn't you see she was wearing expensive clothes? What if officials sent her to apprehend me?” Old Ren didn't reply and only threw Winter a questioning look. Winter rolled his eyes before walking back towards the door. “Don't say I didn't warn you, old man.” He paused before opening it, listening to the girl's lament. “I saw you being chased in—” Winter gritted his teeth immediately, opened the door swiftly, and pulled her in, closing the door almost immediately. “Shush. No one asked,” he reprimanded the strange girl and pointed towards Old Ren. “Tell him whatever you want, he'll be the one to help you.” The girl calmed herself and immediately hugged Winter. “Thank you! Thank you!” Winter's cheeks burned. Getting hugged by an Elysian hot chick was really something he had always dreamed of and even did more than hugging, but definitely not in this manner. He pushed her away and hissed. “What was that for? I barely know you, and he's the one helping you, not me?” The girl immediately bowed. “So-sorry.” Hints of fear were still on her face. “Young woman, may I know what the trouble might be?” Ren asked, breaking the one-sided banter. The girl turned towards him, wanting to say something, but only tears rolled down her cheeks. The words couldn't come out. Noticing how heavy it was on her heart, Ren walked towards her and offered her a seat. “Don't worry, talk to me... you're safe here. Start from the beginning.” The girl didn't reply immediately, glancing at the two men in front of her before wiping her tears and speaking. “I am Summer. Summer White.” Immediately she said those words, Winter's expression changed. “White? You're a White?!” Summer nodded. “Yes. I'm guessing you don't know me since I have never stepped out of my bedroom before.” Winter scowled, but Ren remained motionless, listening to the girl's words with calmness. “Ever since I was an infant,” Summer continued, “the Whites never let me out of my room. When I grew up, I sought different ways to escape. They would invariably bring food to me. I was always guarded when I bathed. They never let me out of their sight, but I still tried to escape. Today, I finally escaped.” She paused, then continued. “But into the clutches of... of monsters.” Winter laughed. “Seriously, Dad. Do we believe this story? Monsters? Trapped in a room? She's obviously lying.” “
