A wet, heavy sound echoed through the cave. The blood-stained club was only slightly less soaked than the elf himself. AAAAAAAAHHH Looking at her father's nearly lifeless body, she let out a piercing scream that tore through the atmosphere of the place. Li stared at the monster, shifting his gaze between the barely conscious old man and the troll. His eyes and body trembled. The beast had been hiding near the entrance in the ceiling. It seemed so obvious it was almost stupid. A voice whispered in his ears, calling to the boy. "Li... Li... LIII!" The barely alive body shouted. "GET YOURSELF TOGETHER, KID!" Fighting to stay upright, the elf pulled himself to his feet. He was strong. Undeniably strong. But the blow had caught him off guard, and in the desperation to save his own daughter, it had rendered his body useless. "Si, sir, I" "FORGET ABOUT ME!" The old man shouted. "Please, Jihan! PLEASE! GET HER OUT OF HERE! I'll try to buy some time!" "But" "You made me a promise!" Choking on his own blood, Itzal could barely speak. Hihihihi . The troll laughed. It began moving toward the dying man. Jihan's mind steadied, and as if his desperation were being contained by his brain, his body began to obey. He looked to the side; Akemi was still frozen. He grabbed her, hoisted her over his shoulders, and started running. "Thank you, boy." Realizing she was being taken away from her father, the half-elf started struggling. "LET ME GO! You bastard! Why did you abandon him?! Why aren't you helping?!" "We... we promised that if things went wrong, we'd run!" Jihan's voice trembled. He was afraid. But also relieved. Relieved to have a reason to run and escape the danger. "COWARD! Put me down. I'll go back on my own!" Li refused. If he let her go, he'd lose the only excuse calming his conscience. After a few minutes, he finally saw the mouth of the cave. "We made it! We're close to the exit!" The boy celebrated. When Jihan took the first step outside, a shadow blotted out the sky, slamming into the ground just ahead of him. With a quick reflex, he barely managed to dodge, sent flying sideways by the shockwave. "What was that" Disoriented from being thrown, Akemi started to question; but before she could finish her sentence, she looked up. The stone club was just a few meters away. Li faced the monster before him. "If it's here, that means the old man is..." "YOU BASTARD! I'm going to end you!" The half-elf drew a staff from her waist. The black object quickly extended and curved, forming a bow in her hands. Li was puzzled, since he'd never seen the girl carry arrows, but as soon as she pulled the string, an arrow of light materialized. "What is that bow?" Still in disbelief, a flash of confidence crossed Jihan's mind. "Maybe we can win!" Akemi released the string and the arrow flew instantly into the beast's head. A small wound appeared on its face. Hihihihi . The creature mocked her, and the wound quickly closed. "Then how about this?" The archer loaded another arrow, this time even larger and stronger, and fired. A blast rang out through the forest. The monster took two steps back and dropped to one knee. "Did it work? No... if it were that easy, Itzal wouldn't have made us run!" "Get back! It's a trap!" After years of being challenged, the troll had developed a slightly higher mental capacity than normal. It had learned the basic tactics of those who came to steal its treasure and how these living beings thought. The monster laughed from within the smoke and, ignoring everything, lunged toward the woman. Its arm swept out, clearing the ground and connecting with her. "AKEMI!" Li shouted, watching her be hurled through the air. Though far less damaging than the blow that had struck Itzal, the woman was knocked away and hit the wall, falling semiconscious. The beast then turned toward the boy. Its yellow eyes made everything around them seem dimmed; its wrinkled, putrid skin made the smell of the place nearly unbearable. Jihan's breathing bega
