Chapter 47: Quiet Before the Storm Ruri walked forward and, as she did, gave Rachel a big hug. "I miss you. You've been away from the castle for far too long." "Well, it can't be helped. These angels aren't going to destroy themselves, so someone has to do it." Rachel then walked over to the chair in her room and slowly started removing her armor one piece at a time, tossing it randomly across the floor of her tent until she was wearing nothing but her undergarments. She then headed over to her bag, looking through it for the normal baggy, comfy clothes she was used to wearing. Ruri then stopped her. "Wait, Rachel. I brought something for you." Rachel stopped digging through her bag in the corner of the room as Ruri pulled something out of her own bag. "Now take a look at this. I made it just for you." "You made this for me? Did you pick up another new talent while I was away?" Ruri smiled widely. Ruri held out a sleeveless one-piece dress with shoulder straps and a long skirt. "Yes. I was getting bored at the castle, so I had a maid teach me how to make clothes. Although I'm still learning, it is really enjoyable. Wait till you get back home. I've created countless pretty dresses just for you." Rachel looked at Ruri with an emotionless gaze as she spoke. "You know I can't wear any of these because of my countless scars. You know how people get around me when they see what's underneath my clothes. They always start to act awkward around me, so I continue to wear my baggy clothes to hide everything." "Well," Ruri said, "you don't have to hide anything from me. Don't you remember when you first found me? I was hardly recognizable and covered in way more scars than you. So looking at you doesn't bother me at all. So if you refuse to dress like this in front of others, you can at least do it in front of me, my friend, because it won't bother me in the slightest." Ruri tossed the dress over to Rachel. "Now here. Put it on. It can't be comfortable always wearing those stuffy clothes all the time." Rachel looked down at the handmade dress in her hands as a warm smile appeared on her face. "Fine, you win. I will do this, but only because it's you." Rachel then unfolded the dress and slowly put it on. Ruri then began to inspect it. "Good, it fits. I was worried for a moment that the dress would be a bit too short." Time passed as they continued conversing while sitting around a small makeshift table inside Rachel's tent. Eventually, Rachel changed the mood as she finally got to the reason why she had called Ruri out to the battlefield. "Ruri, about the letter I sent..." "I know. You are a gentle, kind person and refuse to kill or harm anybody. It's just in your race's nature. But I'm really going to need your help with this one. And I'm not asking you to kill or harm anybody, because that will be my job. All I need your help with is getting me around the city so we can successfully take it over as fast as possible." Ruri then gave her a warm smile as she spoke. "Thank you, Rachel. And yes, I have no problem helping you. Over the twenty years I have lived in your home, you have never asked anything of me, and I appreciate that. But when I received this letter, I knew something big was going down. Even Elyndra told me to keep an eye on you because if you called me here, you're probably going to do something really stupid." Ruri paused for a moment before continuing. "But let me correct you on one thing. Yes, I may be too kind for my own good and dislike taking another's life. But you are my best friend, and if there's anybody I would ever kill for, it would be you. But just don't request this too often, okay?" Ruri then took the cup from the table and took a sip before continuing. "Now, enough of this talk. I've got so much more to tell you, because I've learned more than just sewing." The two of them continued to chat through the night until it grew late. Eventually, they drifted off to sleep in their beds, making sure they were fully r
