Chapter 52: No Escape All around the battlefield, the screams of the angels could be heard. The ones that survived were either crawling away with broken limbs or lying where they had fallen, unable to escape before the goddess's statue had crushed them. Rachel and Ruri walked ahead as they traveled along the fallen goddess's statue's back, watching the demon army, along with the dwarves and elves, flood into the city and its streets. Bells now rang out all throughout the city. Ruri then stepped forward, walking next to Rachel as she looked around. "So what are we doing now?" Rachel continued glancing around the statue before replying, "I'm looking for the coward that's always run away from me. Even though I trapped him pretty good this time, I bet he found some way to survive. He always does." Rachel suddenly stopped as she looked off to the side, near where one of the goddess's broken arms lay. A grin spread across her face as she spotted Lazard gripping one of his arms while making his escape from the battlefield. Rachel scanned the area to see where he was headed, and her eyes stopped on the cathedral in the distance. "Oh, trying to run away to your goddess's church, are you? Well, I'm not letting you get away this time." Rachel then turned and looked at Ruri. "Can you go stop him? You don't have to harm him or anything. Just knock his ass down until I get there." "Oh, all right," Ruri said as she tightened her grip on her two-handed hammer. Then she disappeared in an instant, accelerating herself forward. Rachel leapt off the goddess's statue and headed toward Lazard. Every so often, she'd swing her blade at a crawling angel or any angel that got in her path, brutally slaughtering each and every one of them with a single strike as she absorbed the scatterd blood into her cursed equipment so it would stop nagging her for the time being. But then Rachel stopped just in time as a giant icicle shot past her head, impacting the ground right beside her. "Katarina, where are you?" Rachel turned and scanned the wall, which had now crumbled down to almost nothing. Suddenly, a portal opened behind Rachel. Rachel didn't even have to look. She effortlessly avoided every attack that came through it, making Katarina's portal ability completely useless. "Why do you even bother? You should know by now that ability no longer works on me. It has a huge flaw. Anyone with experience fighting against it can easily avoid it." Rachel charged blood into her blade before swinging it toward the direction she believed the icicle had come from. A blood slash shot toward the wall. Katarina, still wounded and moving slowly from the damage Lyssara had inflicted on her, tried to avoid the attack. She dove to the side as the blood slash slammed into the crumbling section of wall where she had been standing. The impact caused the weakened structure to collapse beneath her, and the wall crumbled into the rubble below, taking Katarina with it. Katarina lay there as she shoved aside some of the rubble that had buried her before trying to sit up. "Damn it... this isn't worth it. I need to get out of here." Katarina started to stand before suddenly freezing, her eyes widening. Standing over her was Lyssara, her bow already drawn. "Well, what do we have here? Looks like it's my lucky day. Say hello to the goddess for me. We'll be dealing with her soon enough." Lyssara released the arrow. The arrow shot straight into Katarina's eye, piercing her brain. A moment later, Katarina's lifeless body fell back into the rubble surrounding her. Lyssara looked around for her next target before moving on, not giving the fallen hero another glance. Lazard quickly made his way toward the cathedral. "Damn it... she tricked us. I knew she was a bit too weak. Anyways, it doesn't matter now. I need to get out of here. Hopefully there are some priests around the cathedral somewhere to heal my wounds before I escape this losing battle." As Lazard approached the cathedral's entrance,
