Chapter 45: My Own Path Rachel groaned as she slowly opened her eyes. She looked around the room she was in as sunlight poured in through the broken window. From outside, she constantly heard the sound of knocking. "Well, it looks like I'm still alive. Sophie must have cleaned up the rest of the angels." Rachel then tried to sit up, but pain shot through her body as her bones creaked and cracked. "Ah, damn. My bones must still be broken. Let's get this healed up." Rachel then closed her eyes and concentrated as mana gathered around her. The magical power grew and grew before she activated the spell. "Healing Pulse." The mana she gathered in her hands traveled throughout her body as it started to glow slightly green. Every few seconds, the mana pulsed as it slowly started to knit her broken bones back together and heal the injuries she had sustained during the battle while the mana backlash burned throughout her body. A few minutes passed, and with each pulse, her body recovered more and more as she continued to gather mana, making the spell last as long as possible. So she sat there, concentrating until every last wound had healed. Then she sighed in relief. "Ah, that's better." Rachel then sat up and looked to the side, seeing her mother asleep in the chair next to her. Rachel gave her a cold look for a brief moment before getting out of bed. She stood up and stretched, relieving her stiff, sore muscles as she made sure there was nothing really wrong with her body. Then she looked down, noticing her whole body was covered in bandages. "Looks like they were trying to tend to my wounds with potions. We all know that's not going to work very well." Rachel then scanned the room. "Let's see if there's anything to wear." Rachel then turned and stripped off the bandages, letting them fall to the ground one by one. She walked over to the standing mirror and looked at herself. She saw all the new scars covering her body that hadn't been there before. Every slash, every cut, and every wound she had sustained had left an everlasting mark upon her body. She was starting to look less like a humanoid and more like a monster people envisioned in their nightmares. Rachel let out a sad sigh. She didn't want to look at herself anymore. Turning away from the mirror, she walked over to the nearby wardrobe and opened it to see if there was anything inside. All she found were a few robes and some undergarments, but none of them would fit her. So she decided to grab one of the robes and throw it on for now. But then suddenly, the door creaked open and a maid stepped inside. The maid froze in shock when she saw Rachel was finally awake, dropping the fresh bandages she had been carrying. Tears welled up in the corners of her eyes. "Princess... you're finally awake." The maid quickly ran over to the sleeping Rina and shook her awake. "Demon Lord! Demon Lord! The princess, she's finally awake!" Rina stood up and groggily looked around before seeing Rachel standing before her. She rushed forward as tears welled up in her eyes. "Rachel, I'm so sorry." But before she could reach her, Rachel jumped to the side, avoiding Rina's embrace. Rachel then held up a hand, stopping her in her tracks. "No. Stop right there." Rina then looked into Rachel's eyes, knowing if she forced it, she might just make things worse. Rachel then turned her head toward the maid. "Go bring me some actual clothes if you can find any. Also bring me Sophie, Elyndra, Durog, and Lyssara if they're here as well. I'd like to have a chat with everybody." The maid gave a slight bow. "Yes, Princess." She then turned and left the room. Eventually, the maid returned with a pair of clothes, handing them over to Rachel. "Here you go, Princess. These are the only things I could find. Your room got pretty destroyed, so these will have to do for now." Rachel grabbed the clothes, which looked like they had been singed by fire magic, and started putting them on. "So, are the others on their way?" The
