Chapter 14: Moving Forward Rachel weakly opened up her eyes as she looked around the room. Rachel tried to sit up, but then she heard her mother's voice. "Don't move. If you do, you'll reopen your wounds." Rachel then looked to the side to see her mother sitting there reading a book. And just above Rina, on a shelf lined with medicinal supplies, herbs, and potions, was Elyndra sitting there swinging her legs back and forth. Both of them were sitting there by Rachel's side, waiting for her to awaken. Then Rina's scolding voice finally kicked in. "You're in big trouble. But before we can get to your scolding, we need you to use your healing magic and heal yourself. You lost so much blood, and you were so close to dying. All it would have taken was for that blood curse to activate at any time during the past few days, but luckily, it hasn't triggered yet. So quickly heal yourself." Rachel then put both her hands to her chest as she gathered magic in her hands and called out her spell. "Healing Light." Her hands started glowing green as the healing spell penetrated her entire body. Her wounds slowly closed until the giant gashes in her leg, arm, and chest were completely healed, along with the damage caused to her face. Once the healing light subsided, all that remained were scars that Rachel could not remove because of one of the curses. Rachel then took a breath and gritted her teeth as the black mana veins started becoming visible. Then the pain began. Her body became covered by the mana veins burning through her flesh as her eyes started leaking that black residue from her pitch-black eyes. She simply lay there enduring the pain, waiting for it to be over. Then the door creaked open as Sophie walked in. Noticing Rachel was awake, she approached the bed and gave her a soft kiss on the forehead as she spoke. "I'm glad you're okay." She then turned toward Rina. "The dwarves, elves, and fairies are getting impatient. We've delayed our arrival long enough. We don't want to mess this alliance up, so we need to go now." "All right," Rina said as she closed her book and set it on the stand next to Rachel's bed before standing up. She then leaned forward and gave Rachel a kiss on the forehead. "Get a lot of rest, and make sure you get better. Because when we get back, prepare yourself for the scolding of your life." She then turned toward Elyndra. "Please keep an eye on her." Elyndra nodded. Rina then followed Sophie out of the room as the door closed behind them, leaving Elyndra alone to watch over Rachel as she struggled through the pain of the burning mana veins. A day later, Rachel woke up feeling a lot better as she slowly opened her eyes, seeing Elyndra sleeping in the chair next to her. Rachel then sat up. Her wounds were healed, but her body ached all over. She started unwinding the bandages wrapped around her body, revealing the large scars where her injuries once were. Rachel then stood and dressed herself before quietly leaving the room. As she walked down the castle hall, she noticed something felt very different. She could feel the gazes of the guards and maids as they watched her pass by, keeping an eye on her far longer than they normally would. It started making Rachel uncomfortable. So she turned toward the nearest balcony to get away from their stares as she walked out onto the large castle balcony that overlooked the training grounds. Outside, she watched the demons practicing as the sounds of clashing weapons echoed through the air. Warriors swung their swords again and again while instructors shouted at them to move faster and hit harder. Watching them train as they prepared themselves for the battles to come, Rachel started thinking about everything that had happened, knowing that when her mother returned, she was going to get the scolding of her life. Rachel then gripped the railing tightly as bruises started forming across her palms and fingers while she watched the warriors below growing stronger. She wished he
