Chapter 42: Running Out of Time Rachel stood there as she struggled to catch her breath while surrounded by enemies in all directions. Elyndra hovered above, dodging the mages' spells with a worried look on her face, hoping Rachel could handle herself, as Elyndra could no longer offer her any more help. She still had enemies of her own to deal with. Magic gathered in Rachel's hand, and a spell was forming. The enemies that saw what Rachel could do backed up a bit as they hesitated because they knew the kind of devastation her cursed abilities could cause. Garek then saw the angels around him hesitate, so he took the initiative and charged forward as he yelled, "Don't let her get off that spell! Everyone attack!" The angels immediately snapped out of their hesitation and charged toward her. Garek was the first to reach her as he swung his clawed hand at Rachel, but she stepped aside, avoiding the strike. A moment later, the angels arrived with their weapons at the ready. But they were too late. The black-and-red cursed blood magic in her hand activated when she called out the name of its spell. "Blood Mist." The magical sphere exploded, bursting outward into a thick crimson mist that blocked the vision of every angel. Their fists, weapons, and spears struck nothing but empty air. They quickly backed away as they looked around for her, but the blood mist was so thick it seemed to cling to their armor. Garek tried using his sense of smell as he inhaled deeply. "Damn it. All I can smell is blood. I can't even get a trace of her." Then, from somewhere within the mist, they heard her voice once again. "Blood Thorns." The moment they heard the name, they all took defensive stances, but once again, nothing happened. They just stood there, waiting for the spell to do something. But there was only silence. That silence didn't last long. Seconds later, screams began sounding out throughout the mist. Rachel was already moving among them. After casting the spell, she charged through the crimson haze, punching and kicking the angels as giant four-inch blood thorns protruded from her armor, easily piercing their vital areas with every strike and taking them down one at a time, as the blood mist had no effect on her. Screams echoed from all around as she hunted them one by one within the mist. From above, Elyndra was just finishing off the remaining mages as she cast another spell toward the last three angelic mages. "Cursed Winds." Three greenish-black blades of wind shot forward, slicing the remaining angels in half as they fell to pieces and crashed to the ground below. Elyndra then looked down toward where Rachel was fighting, seeing the blood mist spread out across the battlefield and hearing the screams of the angels trapped within it. A small smile crossed her face. "Good. Looks like she's back on her feet and able to hold her own once again." Her smile quickly faded. "Now where is that bastard Thamiel?" Elyndra turned and scanned the battlefield. Countless angels were spread throughout the area. Some were waiting for an opportunity to rush Rachel, while others stood farther back, maintaining their defensive positions. Then she spotted him. Near a small group of angelic knights, three angelic priests were kneeling around Thamiel's body, desperately tending to his wounds. An evil smirk spread across Elyndra's face. There's my prey. Let's see how he likes being tortured, because I have more in store for him. She immediately fluttered toward them. After everything he had done, she couldn't wait to finally give him a slow, painful death. The angelic healers, all three of them, were frantically holding their hands out as they healed Thamiel. Thamiel spoke. "How's it look?" The lead healer shook his head. "I don't know what was cast on you, but just like the wounds on your face, we are unable to heal your arm or the chunks of flesh that melted from your body." He paused briefly before continuing. "But the good news is that we were able to is
