Chapter 30: A Moment of Respite Rachel lay there, exhausted and weak from the continuous fighting she had been through today. Rachel slowly sat up as she started to form magic in her hand. The magic began to turn green, and the green light grew brighter and brighter as she focused more mana into it. Using the last of her remaining mana, she cast one final healing spell on herself. Her wounds were far too severe for the light healing spell she had been relying on throughout her battles. She touched her chest with the giant glowing orb of green magic and called out the name of the spell. "Healing Burst." The moment the orb touched her chest, it exploded violently as healing magic surged through her body, closing her wounds and repairing the damage leaving nothing but scars behind. The pain from her injuries finally disappeared as her mana reserves emptied out. Then pain seared through her body as the mana backlash only became worse. After the healing took effect, Rachel thought, We can't be sitting here in one place for too long. There are still battles going on. We need to get up and move now. Rachel started forcing herself back to her feet. But the maids around her quickly stood as well and grabbed onto her, forcing her back into a seated position. "Princess, you need to rest." Their voices were filled with concern. "You've been fighting nonstop since this battle began. You may have healed your wounds, but that won't help you recover your stamina. Just rest for a while. If any angels enter this place while you're resting, then you can deal with them. But until then, rest a bit." Then a maid in the back spoke up. "I'll head down to the safe room storage area and grab something for you to eat and drink, Princess. It will help with your recovery, so just stay put for now." The maid turned and hurried behind the throne. Her footsteps slowly faded as she descended the stairwell leading to the safe room. Rachel sat there and sighed. "Fine. But can you at least bring my axes over here just in case? If angels do enter this place, I'd like to have them near me." Two maids immediately scrambled into action. Each ran toward a different battle axe before carrying them back and setting them beside Rachel. A few moments later, hurried footsteps echoed from behind the throne. The maid had returned from the safe room storage area carrying emergency rations. She quickly approached Rachel. "Princess, here." In her hands were several strips of dried jerky and a flask of water. Rachel immediately reached for the flask. The maid quickly batted her hand away. "Princess, your gauntlets are covered in blood and dirt. Take them off before you eat and drink." Rachel gave the maid an irritated look and sighed. She knew the maids were not going to back down on something like this. One at a time, she pulled off her gauntlets, revealing black-and-blue hands covered in bruises from today's battles. She dropped both gauntlets onto the floor beside her before finally reaching out again. The maid handed her the flask. Rachel popped off the cap and filled her mouth with water. She swished it around for a moment before turning her head and spitting onto the floor. The water that left her mouth was crimson red. During her battle with the hero, the curse had caused her to cough up blood repeatedly, leaving a strong coppery taste behind. After a few more rinses, the taste finally disappeared. Rachel then reached out with her other hand, grabbed a piece of jerky from the maid, and took a bite. All the maids sat around Rachel, making sure she rested before they continued on. One of the maids finally asked, "So, Princess, how did you become so strong? You defeated all those angels and even a hero, but I've never seen you train at all. All you ever seemed to do was laze around the castle or sleep." Rachel looked over at her while chewing on the tough jerky. She started to answer, but one of the senior maids immediately cut her off. "Princess, swallow your food. Do not
