Chapter 20: Calm Before the Storm From the castle, bare feet could be heard moving rapidly across the stone floor until Elyndra’s bedroom door slammed wide open, leaving an embedded handprint in the now-cracked wooden door and startling her as Rachel appeared with a huge smile on her face. “Auntie Elyndra, you’re finally awake!” Rachel spoke excitedly as she entered the room, her bare feet slamming against the castle floor. Her clothes were disheveled, and her hair was an absolute mess, black veins from mana backlash still running across her face and body as she had clearly just finished training before the maid arrived and notified her of Elyndra’s recovery. Rachel quickly moved toward the bed as she looked at the startled Elyndra, who was straining her neck to look up at Rachel while still wearing a look of disbelief on her face. “Wow, Rachel, you’ve grown really tall. But I guess quite a few years have passed.” Rachel then turned around, grabbed a chair, and pulled it over toward Elyndra’s bed before sitting down next to her. Elyndra then turned toward the maid and spoke. “Can you leave us alone for a moment?” The maid nodded. “All right, but if anything at all feels wrong, let us know immediately. We’ll be waiting outside the door. We still don’t know if there are going to be any side effects from that unique spell the Hero cast on you.” “All right, I understand,” Elyndra said. She then waited patiently until the maid left the room and the door slowly closed behind her. Then Elyndra laid back down on the bed, her body still far too weak and exhausted to remain sitting up. She slowly turned her head toward Rachel and spoke. “So, how is your training going? Hopefully you’ve been able to make some progress. I just wish I was around to help you.” Rachel’s large smile only widened. “It has been quite lonely, but everything has been going great. Since I have nothing better to do in this damn prison, I’ve just been training every single day, sometimes twice a day depending on how I was feeling.” Rachel leaned back slightly in the chair before continuing. “But after a few years, I eventually reached a limit in my training. The gravity increase wasn’t strong enough to keep up with my progress anymore. I started growing stronger too quickly.” Rachel had a proud smile on her face as she continued telling Elyndra about her training. “But after a while, I found a way around it. Like you said before, I could place objects inside the gravity sigils to increase their weight too, so I managed to sneak in a full set of armor and a few actual training weapons from the training grounds. Then I started increasing the weight of both the armor and weapons with the gravity sigils, which let me keep increasing the intensity and difficulty of my training.” Rachel let out a small sigh. “But eventually, even that stopped working too. Luckily, Drosera, Rafflesia, and Venus came to visit you while they tried different new ways to break the spell and free you, but unfortunately nothing worked. During their visit, they came down to the training room and helped improve the effectiveness of the training area. They even stayed for a while after that because I convinced them to teach me some of their magic.” “And since then, I’ve just had to become creative with my training as I developed other ways to train with what you created for me.” Elyndra then gave Rachel a proud smile. “You remind me so much of your father. He was an extremely fast learner as well and quickly grew stronger than most of us in the Hero’s party. No matter what we tried to teach him, he would just soak it all in and learn it with ease.” Elyndra’s weak smile slowly faded into a more thoughtful expression. “Although, I think it may have had something to do with the unique Hero ability he received when he first came to this world. Because as we fought alongside him, we never actually saw him use anything out of the ordinary.” She slowly closed her eyes for a moment. “So I’ve always wondere
