Chapter 22: When the Sky Fell On the castle wall, guards stood with bows in their hands while others carried mage staffs, their eyes locked on the angel army gathered in the distance. One of the younger guards glanced toward the soldier beside him. “What do you think’s going on? They arrived a while ago, but they’re just standing there.” An older guard with a chipped horn let out a low grunt. “No idea. But the longer they stay out there, the better chance we have for the scout we sent to reach the Demon Lord and bring her here.” The guards suddenly went quiet as movement spread through the angel army. Far in the distance, the massive force slowly split apart, creating a path through the center of their formation. A woman with pale white skin and blue hair stepped forward, an angelic staff resting in her hand as she walked to the front of the army. Then she slowly raised the staff. A glowing spell immediately began forming at its tip, the light rapidly growing larger and larger until the battlefield itself was flooded in an intense golden glow. The guard captain’s voice suddenly roared across the wall. “Mages, prepare your barriers!” The castle mages immediately lifted their staffs as magic circles spread through the air, forming a massive barrier above the walls in preparation for the incoming attack. The spell continued to grow before suddenly launching forward from the woman’s staff, racing straight toward the castle wall. The barrier held firm as the mages braced themselves for impact. But then something happened. Moments before the spell struck the barrier, it suddenly arced downward. The glowing mass shot directly toward the base of the wall before slamming into the ground below. The guard captain, the mages, everyone on the wall stared in confusion. One of the mages blinked in disbelief. “Did the spell fail?” Then suddenly, a blinding golden light consumed everything. The guards instinctively covered their eyes as the entire world vanished beneath the overwhelming flash. The moment their vision returned, panic erupted across the wall. They could see the clouds. The sky. As the guards looked downward, their faces immediately turned pale. The castle far below them rapidly came into view. The entire wall had been teleported high into the air. Then gravity took hold. The massive stone structure began collapsing apart as everyone standing on it started falling toward the castle below. In the courtyard beneath them, guards and maids immediately started screaming and running in panic as chunks of stone rained from the sky. Some guards barely managed to dive out of the way while others were crushed beneath falling debris. The demons that teleported with the wall slammed violently into the ground. Some exploded into gore on impact while others crashed directly into fleeing soldiers, splattering both across the courtyard floor. Some of the smaller rocks pierced straight through maids and guards alike as the momentum from the fall turned even tiny debris into deadly projectiles. Blood and broken stone covered the castle grounds as chaos erupted everywhere. Back near the angel army, Keno suddenly collapsed to all fours, gasping for air. Thamiel, Cid, and Garrick quickly approached her from behind. Thamiel looked down at her. “You did a good job. You can rest now. Recoup your mana. After we complete our mission, we’ll need a way out of here before reinforcements arrive.” Then Thamiel turned toward the army. His voice thundered across the battlefield as he amplified it with a magic spell. “We are on a sacred mission from the Goddess! This is the Demon Lord’s castle! It is filled with nothing but heretics and foul demons! Kill everyone! And bring me the head of the Demon Lord’s child!” Then he turned back toward the massive gaping section where the wall once stood. As he held his hand forward, he shouted loudly. “Charge!” The angel army immediately surged forward. The heavily armored soldiers rushed across the ground while the angels i
