Chapter 24: Cataclysm Rachel arrived near Elyndra and the other demon guards and the maids just as they sheathed their weapons. Rachel looked at the ground near them, where six of the angel bodies were scattered across the floor. Some were missing limbs, while others had massive gashes torn through their armor as blood spilled all across the hallway. The guards and maids then noticed Rachel and started to panic as the maids swarmed Rachel. “Princess, why are you here? You should be in the safe room with the others that went into hiding just before the battle started.” Then a guard stepped forward, getting everyone’s attention. “Come, we should move quickly. We have a group that has already reinforced the Great Hall, where we have been holding the position against the angels that breached the castle while also escorting the maids that got separated in the chaos to the safe room.” “Let’s move quickly before more angels show up.” The guards then started moving in the direction of the Great Hall while Rachel, Elyndra, and the maids followed behind them as the sounds of explosions and screams echoed from the chaos of the battle taking place in the courtyard outside. As they grew close to the Great Hall, there was suddenly an explosion from within the castle as the walls violently shook and parts of the upper floor started to collapse. The moment they came around the corner, the entire corridor ahead of them was filled with smoke and dust while chunks of stone were scattered across the floor. The dust and smoke were so dense they couldn’t see anything. Then a gust of magical wind suddenly burst from the center of the explosion, violently pushing all the dust, dirt, and smoke down the corridor and out through the castle windows. As their vision cleared, Rachel saw that a giant gaping hole now stood where the doors to the Great Hall used to be. Elyndra irritably spoke out. “What the hell is wrong with them? Casting an explosion spell like that indoors? Do they want the castle to collapse on top of everyone?” Ahead of them, around ten angels were fighting at the now widened entrance to the Great Hall as swords and shields violently clashed against each other. One of the demon guards cursed. “Damn zealots. This is why I hate fighting angels. They’ll gladly kill everyone, including themselves, in the name of their stupid goddess.” Another guard stepped forward, raising his shield high while unsheathing his sword. “We gotta help them before they get overrun!” The guard charged forward with his shield raised, ready to slam into the nearest angel, while the other two guards unsheathed their weapons and followed right behind him. Rachel and Elyndra immediately charged forward as well. As they got closer to the battle, Elyndra noticed an angelic mage standing toward the back of the group, chanting a large spell. “We need to kill him first. We can’t let that mage finish chanting that spell. If he does, the castle may really collapse in on us.” Elyndra tightened her grip on her wand. “I’ll stop his magic. Just make sure you kill him quickly.” Rachel nodded as she readied her battle axes. The moment the angelic mage noticed them rushing down the hallway, he turned toward Rachel as he neared the end of his chant, aiming the spell directly at them. At the same moment, Elyndra raised her wand as dark gray magic gathered around the tip. “Silence.” Before the mage could even finish his chant, the spell struck him as dark mana coiled around his neck. The angel’s eyes widened in confusion as no sound came from his mouth. Rachel immediately hurled one of her battle axes as hard as she could. It spun forward with immense power behind it. The spinning axe slammed directly into the mage’s head with a sickening crack, splitting his skull open and embedding itself deep into him as the angelic mage collapsed lifelessly to the ground. The moment the angel fell, Elyndra quickly flew above Rachel and the group as she prepared to cast another spell. Brown energy
