Chapter 40: The Forest's Edge Garek leapt over carnivorous plants that tried chomping him as he passed over them, continuing to carry Kino and Thamiel, who was leaving a trail of blood and pieces of flesh as he slowly fell apart. As they made their way to the edge of the massive spell, the sound of screaming angels rang out all around them. Finally, the heroes saw light passing between two trees as they burst forward, exiting the tree line and ending up right in front of the collapsed wall that had been destroyed at the beginning of the battle. As they emerged through the massive hole in the wall, Garek looked around at the defeated angels scattered everywhere. As the army was regrouping he called out, "Healer! We need a healer now!" He dashed forward toward where they were gathering and carefully set Thamiel down. "Any healer still alive? We need one over here now! Hurry! Thamiel is poisoned and slowly dying!" A frantic rush came from the crowd of knights as one pushed his way quickly forward. "I'm a healer. Let me take a look at him." He knelt beside Thamiel, who lay on the ground bleeding out as chunks of skin had fallen away all over his body. "All right." Garek then turned to Kino. "We need you to get your teleportation spell up quickly. Will you be able to do it with the curse placed on you?" Kino, who was not used to pain like this, grimaced as she spoke through the agony. The mana backlash she was experiencing was still burning through her body. "Yes, I think I can manage. Besides, if I don't fight through this pain and prepare the spell, we'll probably all die here once the Demon Lord's reinforcements arrive." Garek then handed her over to a knight. "Here, take her a distance away from the castle. We need to give her room so she can prepare her teleportation spell." The knight nodded then turned with Kino in his arms and headed towards the back end of the gatherd forces. "What about us, Garek?” A knight standing near by asked. "I will ready our remaining forces we need to stand near the exit to this forest because the enemy shouldn't be far behind us. I used the last of my mana to trap them before we made our way here, but I had so little mana left that it won't hold them for long. They shouldn't be far behind. We need to get battle ranks up and ready to engage and hold them off until Kino can get that spell up and ready." "I understand, sir I will let the others know." The angelic knight then took off toward the groups of angels who were sitting down and resting as they caught their breath after escaping the forest, ready to get them into formation and make sure they were prepared for the incoming enemy attack. Meanwhile, Rachel caught up to Elyndra as they proceeded through the forest. "What's the plan, Auntie?" Elyndra then spoke. "Well, the rest of the battle is going to be mostly up to you, as conjuring this massive forest drained a lot of my mana. But it seems that the spell did its job, as it wiped out a good chunk of the angels' forces that were gathered in the courtyard." "So from here on out, it will be up to you. But don't worry, I can still fight just fine. I'll just be limited to my less potent spells." "But it won't be just the two of us for long. I sent out magic tracking couriers that have spread throughout the entire castle looking for all the surviving guards who can still fight. They'll meet us out there on the battlefield." Then, after a few more moments of traveling, Elyndra stopped as they reached the edge of her forest. "Wait right here for a moment." She flew upward through the branches and peered out, spotting a formation of exhausted knights holding their weapons, with the hero Garek standing at their center. Floating above them in the back was a group of angels waiting to begin casting their spells at any moment. Elyndra then fluttered back down toward Rachel as she spoke. "They're already all there, prepared and waiting for us to exit this forest. And they have quite a few mages in the back
