Chapter 15: Chains of Love A day had passed, and Rachel was walking down the corridor as Elyndra fluttered next to her. "Rachel, you're making great progress. You've already learned three support spells. You're doing a great job, but I think you're pushing yourself too much. You're putting yourself through a lot of pain with the constant mana backlashes. I'm starting to get worried." Rachel then looked toward her. Unlike her mother and the others, Elyndra was simply too kind. She always worried about her. But she still continued helping her regardless because she had also noticed the emotional trauma this caged life inside the castle was causing Rachel. "It's okay, Aunt Elyndra. I will do anything just to grow stronger, even if I have to deal with this pain." Then sounds echoed from the other side of the castle as the massive doors slowly creaked open. Rachel and Elyndra both looked toward the nearby window. Rina had finally returned, and now Rachel had to prepare herself for what would come next. Rachel then turned and headed back toward her room then sat there on her bed, waiting for the moment her mother would finally show up. Then she heard it from the other side of the door. Heavy footsteps. One step at a time. Getting closer. And closer. Until the door finally opened. Her mother stood there with a cold, emotionless expression as she stepped into the room with Sophie following behind her. Then the door slowly closed. Rachel sat there quietly as she listened to her mother and Sophie scold her. And Rachel endured it. Right until the moment she decided it was finally time to make things worse. "So," Rina said coldly, "do you have anything to say for yourself?" Rachel then looked toward Elyndra and Sophie before finally locking eyes with her mother. "Yes, I do." Rachel slowly stood up from the bed. "I know I am weak and powerless, and all you want is for me to stay safe in this castle. But I learned something from this battle. No matter how weak and powerless I was, I still managed to make a difference, even though I almost died. If I wasn't there, Aunt Elyndra would be dead." Rachel's hands slowly clenched into fists. "So after I started to feel better, I thought about what I really wanted... I decided I will not let you keep me trapped here any longer. I will no longer listen to you and stay trapped in this castle day after day like some fragile little thing." Tears slowly started forming in Rachel's eyes. "I am going to train, grow stronger, and fight by your sides. No matter what." Rachel then held out her trembling hand. "Look. In just a few weeks while you guys were gone, I studied really hard to learn some spells to protect myself." Rachel then called out the name of the spell. "Barrier." A shimmering magical barrier suddenly appeared before her. But then pain surged violently through her mana veins. Rachel's body trembled as the backlash immediately started affecting her. But Rachel gritted her teeth through the pain and called out the next spell. "Body Reinforcement." A shimmering pulse flowed through her body as her skin faintly glowed, making her body slightly sturdier. Rachel cried out softly in pain as the agony surging through her mana veins became even worse. But she still forced herself to continue. "Strength Enhancement." A swirl of magical light spun around Rachel's body as the enhancement spell increased her physical strength. The pain from the backlash continued growing worse and worse. But Rachel still forced herself to remain standing. "See..." Rachel said while struggling through the pain. "I can still be useful. I don't even care if I have to stay all the way at the back of the battlefield. I will still try to help everyone however I can." But then Rina's cold voice suddenly cut through the room. "No." Rachel's body froze. "You will stay here until the goddess is dead and the curses are gone. I will not risk you for anything." Rachel then looked at her angrily. "Sorry, Mother... but I'm not going to li
