Chapter 48: Fanatics of the Goddess The charging armies finally collided as swords, spears, and shields clashed. With each slash of Rachel's cursed blade coated in the curse's power, she carved through angels like butter. Every swing cleaved through multiple enemies, and each drop of blood fed her curse. Some of the blood traveled back into her blade and armor, while more distant blood floated through the air as though there were no gravity. It flowed into the Blood Moon like tiny streams, causing it to grow bigger and bigger. In the back lines, Ruri was pouring her mana into the fairies as they drained Ruri's vast mana pool. They began to form a grand earth spell as a massive arcane symbol glowed across the ground while they combined their magic together, forming a massive column of earthen magic that flowed upward into the sky like a beacon as an immense amount of magical power formed within the circle of fairies. Loud roars then rang out across the battlefield as Dreven commanded the dwarven artillery cannons, firing barrage after barrage toward the castle walls. "Keep firing, men! Do not stop until the walls crumble!" he screamed at the top of his lungs. Ahead of them was Lyssara, who stood with her archers, carefully aiming and picking off every flying angel above the battlefield, denying the angels their aerial advantage. On the castle wall, Katarina and Lazard were giving out orders until Thamiel arrived. The aura of holy energy he generated drew their attention as Thamiel approached. A golden mask concealed the burns that had forever scarred his face, while his right arm, right leg, and one of his wings shimmered with ethereal holy light, spectral replacements for the limbs Elyndra's curse spells had stolen from him. A relieved look appeared on Katarina's and Lazard's faces when Thamiel arrived to take control. "You finally made it," Lazard said. "I didn't think you would arrive in time." Thamiel spoke in a confident voice as he took charge. "This city holds one of our goddess's prayer statues. We cannot let this place fall. We need to take out those cannons fast before they breach our walls." Katarina then spoke. "We tried, sir, but besides myself, the mages' spells and our own artillery cannons cannot match the range of the dwarven cannons. The flying angels have been trying to close the distance to get rid of them, but they have Lyssara with them, along with their elite archers, and they're picking off every angel that gets close enough to destroy their artillery cannons." "Then all we have to do is call in the goddess's most faithful to get rid of the problem." Thamiel turned around as he held up his hand to the group on the ground praying to the goddess. "Priests and priestesses, all of you step forth. The goddess has called upon you to strike down these demons who are besieging our city. So let us show them the strength of our goddess." Each priest and priestess held up their hands as holy flames burned above their heads. Then, slowly, the extremely powerful holy flames condensed into their bodies, causing them to radiate an aura of holy fire. "Good," Thamiel said. "Now, take flight and show them the wrath of our goddess." The angels all flapped their wings as they burst into the air at full speed, flying well above the clouds and out of sight of the demon army. Once they all disappeared into the sky, Thamiel turned around and scanned the battlefield. Seeing the massive pillar of earth magic rising in the distance, he spoke to the nearby mages. "Have you figured out what they're casting yet?" "No, sir. All we know is that it is a grand earth spell, but it doesn't match any of the known grand earth spells we know. It must be a completely new spell they've created. As of right now, our only option is to hold back some of our mages and prepare barrier magic to stop whatever damage that spell may cause." "And what of that orb in the sky? It's getting bigger and bigger the more of our angels die." "We have no idea wha
