Chapter 135: Rematch Against the Wicked The alliance’s forces stumbled around as they stared bewildered at the voracious beast herd now fighting by their side. Scaled lizards, wildlings of fur, monsters which towered in size no different than the manses built in the cities: In a not-so distant age they were man’s eternal foes, ever locked in strife with them for territory and the right to be called the world’s dominant species. Mankind’s feud with the beasts had persisted since the dawn of time. Yet it was now when threatened by a greater power—unnatural, darkly twisted and perverse—that these long-sworn enemies found cause to hunt as one. The soldiers were hesitant at first, preparing to battle both demon and beast. But that fear soon turned into relief. And that relief thus sparked a new emboldened fervor. The soldiers raised their weapons; they shouted and formed ranks, steadying themselves with their gazes keen and focused. Then, they sprinted ahead, joining the beastly advance until their bodies disappeared in a blur. Without the Demon King’s maddening influence, the resurrected Great Evils and their demented legion were vulnerable. Now was the moment to counterattack. Lord Widukind and his berserker hounds yelled a battlecry and chased after the Evil with the body of spine. King Desiderius’s penitents congregated in mass and delivered holy penance onto the Evil of lungs. The Emir confronted the skull; President Maleficent fired at the nervous system; and Karolus somberly swung his holy sword at the Heart which so resembled Ganelon. Each lord was accompanied by their respective elites—Francia’s Peers rushed to protect their emperor. As for the other Evils, the players gathered around and each marked their prey. Marco, Harper, and Mili especially had a bone to pick with their past foes. They would’ve had to fight tooth and nail together just to contend with one, before, but Lucius’s fellows had grown much since they were first thrust into this world, much more comfortable with their system-granted powers and this cutthroat reality. It was time for the fledgelings to carve themselves a legend of their own in this otherworldly land. Thus, they all went their separate ways, resolved to slay the Evils quickly before the Demon King could return. “Think you’ll be alright out there by yourself, kid?” Marco said, teasing Mili. She scoffed and waved the former mobster off. “Worry about yourself first, old timer. I’ve been hankerin’ for a rematch ever since we met those losers. No way am I gonna run away from the chance to bash their heads in.” Harper laughed. “Got to be honest, I’ve always felt bad that we needed the Peers to come rescue us when we’re supposed to be some astral superweapon or whatever the hell the system’s making us into. It’s about time we start pulling our own weight.” The four of them, including Lucius, acknowledged each other with a brief nod, before running toward their designated opponent. The trio of Miss Enapay, Mister Crowley, and Miss Rhodes were busy tackling the tongue. Mister Hemingway, on the other hand, boldly swung his gun around and fought two Evils at the same time: the hands and the legs That left Lucius’s party to reunite with some familiar, nonsensical faces. Harper was the first. The firefighter sharpened her axe and stomped her foot down, firm, as she approached the fiend who had traumatized the players with its madness and slaughter, the one who brought ruin to an entire fortress. The Great Evil, the Eyes of Prejudice. Its body of photographs flickered between various shifting pupils and it used its elongated stalks to slice through all beasts and warriors who dared approach. “Been a while, huh? Still creepy as ever,” Harper said with a furrowed brow. “But it’s not going to be like last time. Unlike back then, I won’t let you hurt anyone else.” Each of the demon’s many eyes squirmed and trembled, before fixating on the lone woman boldly declaring her challenge. “I see how you look at me. Eye
