Liam hesitated for a moment before Marie spoke again. “You want to exchange information related to our investigation of FlashDrop Logistics?” Marie nodded. “Yes. After all, I believe your request and our case are far more connected than you realize. Why not cooperate?” Liam narrowed his eyes. “Even so, you can’t seriously expect me to just hand over whatever you want. We are currently conducting an official investigation. The information we have is highly classified. Sharing it with you would be nothing short of breaking the law. So I suggest you forget about it.” Marie let out a soft chuckle. “Tell me, Liam… do you know the Third Law of Fixers’ Rights?” Liam raised an eyebrow. “Yes, but why are you bringing that up all of a sudden? You’re not accusing me of a crime now, are you?” Marie didn’t answer immediately. She casually reached into her pocket, pulled out her phone, and showed him the information Sandra had sent her. Liam leaned in to read the content. At first, his eyes narrowed. Then they widened in shock. He finally understood exactly what she was trying to do. “How is this even possible…?” he muttered. Marie smiled sweetly and tilted her head. “So now that both you and the entire S.E.C.T. are under suspicion, and thanks to the Third Law of Fixers’ Rights, we can exchange information, can’t we?” Liam was stunned. For a moment, it felt like everything he knew had been turned upside down. But he quickly regained his composure. He couldn’t afford to panic right now. He needed to get to the bottom of this. “…Yes,” he said reluctantly. “Please ask away.” Back in Evan’s office. Evan’s hand trembled slightly as he stared at Marie. She wore the largest, most satisfied grin he had ever seen on her face. He forced himself to calm down. He might be shaken, but he was no greenhorn rookie. “Explain,” he said, placing the papers down with forced calmness. “The information you brought forward can’t be considered legitimate without a reliable source. Where did you get this?” Marie leaned back in her chair, still smiling. “It’s from the Nexus Association, of course. Are you forgetting that they share the same network with the S.E.C.T.?” Evan’s eyes narrowed. “That can’t be right. The shared network is heavily monitored and controlled. How did the Nexus Association bypass the sensors? Unless… there’s a mole among us. But why act now, of all times?” He pushed that thought aside for the moment. “The Detector device… how did you bypass it?” It was a special device installed in his office specifically to detect and neutralize any Aspect usage or law-breaking within the room. If Marie had used her Aspect, the entire station should have been alerted, and the device should have delivered a powerful counterattack. Yet when she summoned those papers, nothing happened. Marie seemed to read his mind. She smiled wider. “You must be wondering how I managed to turn the device against you, aren’t you?” She raised her phone and showed him the screen. “It was simple, really. I knew the device would catch even the smallest detail. Since it belongs to the S.E.C.T., it must follow the laws of the city. So I simply showed this to it.” On the screen was the same damning information he had just read, but this version carried official verification from the Nexus Association. That was why the device had turned against him. Thanks to the law of the city, Evan was currently being treated as a suspect of a crime, stripping him of his position, while Marie had been temporarily granted the authority of an enforcer. This allowed her to use her Aspect, as long as it was within her rights to carry out the investigation. Evan’s eyes widened. He was immediately reminded of what Liang Shen had said to him inside the Dark Space, that he was a rather bad observer. Even now, thinking about that man pissed him off. If he had noticed what she was doing under the table earlier, he wouldn’t be in this situation. Right now, he desperately needed a way out. If Marie successfully
