Indiscernible shouts rang out in the cavern as the soft glow of torches lit the opening above. Blood sprayed from wounds in regular intervals as the massive body of the great worm stretched and constricted its musculature. Each gash and puncture was another stick added to the pyre, and it was only a matter of time until the worm went up in flames. Nik and Doggy tore into the creature with fervor. Their goal was sheer volume as they tried to inflict as much damage to the creature's hide as they could before it reached the wall. The wall only got closer as the worm carried them toward it. “Got any tricks up your sleeves, Buddy? My only other idea is to blow through some more of my MP with a stupid plan.” The capybeara looked entirely occupied with his task and equally uninterested in Nik’s words. “Good chat. Bad plan it is,” Nik said more to himself than to Doggy as he raced forward. As the beast neared the wall, Nik reached the area just his own body length behind the thing’s toothy maw. Mana flowed into his hand as he placed it against leathery skin and readied a controlled Flame Blast. Flesh exploded outward as his ability blew a hole through the creature's back. It was both slick and rough as he dropped through the charred opening and into the worm's interior. Nik planted his feet on the floor of its monstrous throat. Hot musty air rushed against his skin as the creature roared in protest. He ran in the direction of its tail as the worm approached rock. The space around Nik shrank as walls of muscle closed in on all sides. “Trying to crush and swallow me, huh? Not today,” he said as he activated Shock Armor. His feet left scorch marks as electricity jolted from each step. He carved into the walls as he moved, and the shifting muscles of the beast's interior tightened. Running slowed to a hurried crouch. He needed to make his final move before his enemy either crushed him, burrowed into the earth with him still trapped inside, or both. He held his black spear tight, his feet burning muscle tissue with each step. Instead of throwing his spear, he gripped it even tighter as he made a horizontal dive and activated Lightning Spear. The ability triggered as his body hit the belly of the worm and the electricity sparking off of his body intensified as it coursed through his Shock Armor and Lightning Spear simultaneously. He tore through the flesh of the creature’s insides as he cut a blazing path of jagged light along its body. The destruction didn’t stop until Nik reached the spot where the worm's length had curved back on itself, and he shot through to the cave outside. He bounced multiple times and came to a scraping halt as the electricity faded. What now lay in his wake was a trail of burnt blood and viscera. The charred smell of cooked meat and copper clung to his nostrils as he forced his legs under himself. He only swayed for a moment after getting to his feet. A dull, near silence had fallen. Heavy paws and the clacking of capybeara claws approached, and the muffled echo of voices drifted from above like they were sinking through water. Then, he heard the notification bell. Nik opened up his notifications, and for the first time in quite a while, he was asked to make a choice. * * * The tunnel had gone dark as the screeching goblins approached, that was until Bea had activated a new ability. Plants with softly luminescent golden flower buds the size of his head sprang from the ground near the walls, and then those vibrant petals blossomed, uncurling to reveal the glorious light within. The strange beauty was a harsh contrast against the sickening sound of the unison goblin chorus. The nearest goblins stumbled at the brightness. Eric sucked in a breath. If we make it out of here alive, I'm asking that woman on a date. “Now!” he called out as he moved in to make use of their momentary advantage. He struck with a shield bash to one enemy and a strike of his sword at another of the red-eyed goblins. A bolt of lightning carved
