Once iridescent ribbons of light, the cracks in the sky had grown into canyon-sized maws, both misshapen and vast. The crevices revealed a wondrous and terrible sight. Hovering within the gaps of the tower’s wounds were two multi-colored spheres beyond the scope of anything the denizens of Kyraneth had ever seen. For the first time in their history, the other tower worlds were visible to anyone standing on the surface of the first tier. As they looked on in awe and horror, the planets, each ten times the size of a moon, grew closer. “That… looks like a problem,” Nik said as the vibrations in the air shook his rib cage. AdminHarper's voice reached his ear as she pushed her way through the gathered Stormclaws to stand over him and block his view of the shattered sky. “The other tower worlds are collapsing in on Kyraneth. I believe that your tower is trying to rip them away from the Black Tower. I don't know if you found what you needed through that doorway, but none of us will survive this if you don't do something soon. Can you make the tower let go?” her voice cracked. Nik looked inward toward the newly discovered power he held inside. It was still something that needed nurturing and time to understand, but he didn't need to dig deep; he already knew. “I can't stop this now. I don't have the power or the control,” he shouted to be heard over the crowd. Appearing suddenly on his shoulder, like she’d just materialized, Pearl closed her eyes and said, “Then this is the end? You give up, and we all die?” Nik clenched his fists and turned to where his guards stood at his side. With no doubt visible in their eyes — without even a hint of fear — they looked down at him, awaiting his command. Kath took a step closer and asked, “Well, are we giving up, or are you going to fight for us?” “No. No, this is not how it ends. I made a promise to myself once; I will never give up. I can’t stop this, but sure as fire burns, I will save you all or die trying. Now get everyone clear. I’m going to need some space,” he ordered. His guards, vassals, and the adventurers all began ushering the goblins out of the circle of sunken earth, with Bonesy leading the way up. Nik reached down into his core, and tapped into the well of power within. It was shallow, too shallow, but he would empty it of every drop if that was what it took to save his world. Embers sparked to life, burning on his skin as his inner fire was made manifest. The emerald crown reappeared upon his brow, unbidden, further proof that some form of sentience still lived within the tower. Green scales radiated as brightly as the crown. The wounds of the tower had continued to grow moment by moment, until the curved edges of other worlds bulged through the atmosphere above the clouds, like fists breaking the water's surface. Gravity shifted, dust and leaves floated up from the quaking planet he called home. The reverberations in the air only grew in strength as the number in the warning message reached ninety-eight percent. He stretched out his arms, hands to the sky, and flooded the area with his own energy. It was like when he had fought back against the king’s darkness, only this time, instead of using it as a shield, he was reaching out to the wounds in the heavens. He needed to connect with them, understand them, to figure out what actions he could even attempt to take. Break, that was my command, but the intent was to cut it off from the other kings. I never gave a thought to the other tiers, so they weren’t a part of what was broken away. They’re still bound, but only a third of the tower isn’t enough to hold them in place. Understanding flooded his mind, but it was too late to undo what had already been done. If his tower couldn’t function like it was supposed to then he would need to improvise, find a workaround that the tower was capable of maintaining. The solution was right there, if he could make it work. The only problem was that he didn’t have enough resonance to pull it off.
