The sounds of construction echoed off of stone walls as hammers struck nails into wooden support beams. Craftspeople had been hard at work filling out the skeleton of what would become Candlelight Burrow’s first and only guildhall. With guidance from the adventurers who'd been trapped in this world, the building had been designed to fit a look that was more familiar to them. To the goblins it seemed entirely alien, but the marriage of wood and stone reminded Nik of the sunken castle he once called home. After the merging of worlds left the landscape of their planet forever changed, the need for expansion and combat strength was greater now than it had ever been before. One of the onyx-crowned kings had been defeated, but two others remained. The threat they posed to freedom and peace had been stalled, but Nik's actions had only delayed their plans to claim the peoples and resources of the tower worlds for themselves. “Have you finished the last step?” asked the sprite who had been the first true friend he'd ever known. Nik nodded his head in response. He'd made his decision just as Pearl hovered over to inquire about it. This was the final piece required to create his guild with the adventurers. It only needed a name. “I have. I'm going to name it after the clan. I've decided to call it the Stormclaw Guild, so the alliance and my family will be one. I want everyone who joins to know that they are a part of us. So long as they are under our banner, they are trusted, important, and under my protection.” Pearl chuckled, a high-pitched and happy sound. “Honestly, I do not know why I might have expected anything different from you. The refugees from Brekk could use the peace of mind while settling in and taking positions here. Between that and training up a number of them as guards, they should be able to start getting more comfortable with the presence of the adventurers soon.” “Speaking of settling in,” Nik said. “When do you plan on going back to the hollow for your family?” “Ah, that. I think I will leave in the morning tomorrow. It is a longer distance than it was a few sunfalls ago. It would probably be best for me to start as soon as I can. I don't want to miss any more of the battles ahead than necessary.” Nik shuffled his feet. “I've grown so much from the days you spent torturing me with boredom until I learned the wind skill. Still, I really don't want to see you leave. I'm going to miss you… You better stay safe on your journey. I don't know what I'd do without you.” “You would continue leading your people. And you be careful, too. This business of entering the towers to claim domains could be dangerous. Do not let your guard down. Candlelight better still be here when I return.” She gave him a small grin and added, “This burrow is really becoming more than I ever imagined we would have. I am proud of you.” “Thank you. That means a lot, teacher. So, I should probably make this guild thing now, shouldn't I?” he said as he cleared his throat and opened his menu back up to confirm his selection. Time to let everyone know, he thought. It didn't take long for the word to spread that an announcement was going to be made, and for the most part the goblins gathered on their own, not wanting to miss out on whatever the news would be. Several moments later, Nik stood on a platform that jutted out from the front of the building that doubled as his office and his home. Ryan, who rarely left his side, stood to his left as he prepared to address the residents of the burrow. He let his fingers run in small side to side motions as he drew in a deep breath. He exhaled, and then began. “Many of you know the details already. This burrow was built by my clan and the adventurers who helped me to protect my people from the shadows. The people of Brekk have already helped us to make it larger for our growing numbers, too. We have a lot to be thankful for, with all that we have faced together. It's also true that I have access to the syste
